I Think I Won the Lottery

I was driving through some of the small towns in Colorado trying to avoid the mess on I70 and came across a new gun store recently opened. Stopping in I was impressed with the counters full of pistols and revolvers and the racks of long guns on the wall racks. I also noticed that there were powder cans all around the perimeter of the store. I was told that they had bought out a powder distributor when they opened up. Asking for my long-absent IMR4759, they came up with this. I am happy now.   Wink

Let's see, 9 pounds at 7000 grains to the pound; 32-40 rounds at 13.6 grains per shot; that comes to 4632 shots.  Works for me!  Smiley

Where was this store, and did you leave any 4759 behind?

The store is in Evergreen, Colorado and I unfortunately ( but not for me?) took all they had as I have been looking for two+ years. They said no more can be had by them but you are free to contact them as they have a great selection of other powders. Yankee Creek Munitions 303-674-7466. They have a website with what they have listed. Do not go by the prices listed as they are all messed up. (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)   Look under reloading. Good luck on your search.

Ah IMR 4759 when you care to use only the very best. I confess to using it in the 7.62x54r cartridge using the lyman 314299 bullet in a Finn reworked model 27 Moisin Nagant rifle. Let's see, Finn rifle American powder and Yugoslavian cases (Hansen Cartridge company) and some Norma cases as well. Frank

FWIW I called Yankee Creek Munitions inquiring about Accurate 4100 powder.  The guy I talked to had to check on the price and would call me back.  He saiid I would have to pay Hazmat fee.  When he called me back with the price he ask me if I was local and I told him where I lived.  he then told me they were not set up to ship gun powder.
So if you live in the Denver area, you have a source for AA4100.   Walk ins welcome. Cry

I see on their website they added "Powder In Store Pickup Only". That is new. Sorry about that.

That ought to hold you until the new owners of IMR see the light and bring back SR-4759.  And hopefully SR4756, too.

Food for thought. Mid-May is the Colorado Gun Collectors Show for three days, one of the premier collectors shows in the country. Come to Denver for the show and take a side trip to Evergreen for powder? Just thinkin............

That's happened a couple of times in the past, but I fear that this time the bean counters have prevailed.  The techniques and equipment needed to manufacture this type of powder have been declared obsolete and unprofitable.  My strategy is to gather all I can and enjoy shooting it... not really wasting a grain, but enjoying every round.  My old high wall Plain Sporter responds so very well to being fed 13.6 gr of it behind a 185-200 grain bullet, that's probably where most of it will go.  Ledball insisted for years that I should use H-108 for my late model rebuild of a high wall Schuetzen for offhand use... and unlike the rest of the world, I have a goodly supply of H-108, which has been gone longer than 4759!  I figure unless my shooting program takes an extreme jump forward, I should be using these two powders for the rest of my life.  Cool

I'm with ya Mr. Frog. But, I hope we're both wrong, and this powder may make it's third (or is it fourth) appearance. I don't have enough for a long lifetime, but like you say, I won't be wasting a single kernel.

Could it be the distributors are not providing full orders to the box stores but instead favoring the reloading suppliers?

I stopped at a local commercial caster last week.  He was in the process of sorting out his powder order and it was all over the floor and on a work bench - many of each different powders.  I stopped counting 9 one lb containers of 4759.  Didn't buy any because I still have an unopened 8 lb jug
