I need some bullet opinions please.

I shoot a Browning Hiwall for BPCR silhouette. I'm using the Saeco 540gr FPGC and have a tough time forcing it into the lands when loading a cartridge. I have them seated to the top of the last grease groove and still have to lever them in. 20:1 BACO lead. Do you have any suggestions for a different mold like maybe tapered? thanks, Bob

This Buffalo Arms bullet is a good one.  It shows it's out of stock but they make them up fairly quickly when they get the order.

It has the first driving band reduced to .454" and I load it so that about 1/2 of the driving band is in the rifling.  That centers the bullet up nicely.  Cast at 16:1 to 20:1.

One question though.  Are you compressing your powder with the bullet?

Bob - you might join the Shiloh Sharps forum and ask in the Black Powder forum over there. Any number of good BPCR shooters are campaigning the Browning BPCR rifle in 45-70 and you will likely receive several recommendations for what is working for them in the same rifle.

Thanks guys, I will ask over there. I am compressing the 1.5 Swiss quite a bit. I'm using 63gr. A .030 poly wad in Starline brass. Not much room left. Thanks.

Bob, if you are compressing the powder using the bullet it will expand. For BPCR you are not using a gas check on it, are you?

As Old Win says check out Buffalo Arms bullet molds. They make quite a few from 525 to 545 grains with one or two reduced bands in both the Creedmoor and money shapes. I have a 525 with 2 reduced bands that I plan to shoot some this year when the weather breaks. I also have a 540 Brooks Creedmoor with one reduced band that shoots well.

Another option to try is, if you have a luber/sizer, put the bullet in nose down and run the first band into a smaller sizer die, perhaps a .452 or smaller and just reduce the first band some.  Depending on the lead in your chamber this might help in seating the bullets in the chamber or maybe allow you to set them out a little more.
