making a breech seater help

I have previously made three breech seaters that work fine. Each used .250 round stock for the rod that pushes on the bullet. For a variety of reasons I want to make the next one with 3/16 round stock for the seating rod. This one is for a 38-55 - bigger in diameter than any of the bullets I previosly made seaters for. The bullet will be cast from 1-25. Looking for thoughts, or preferably experience, on whether 3/16 stock is thick enough. What size are the push rods on commercial seaters?

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

I like 1/4" rod myself. I suppose 3/16" might work, but depends on the style of breech seater, and length of the rod. Plus how easy the bullet seats.
