Now that is my idea of an excellent rifle.  Even the cheek piece is on the correct side Smiley.  If you ever get bored of it and want to sell it to a fellow Canuck let me know Smiley

I like the Ballard because, mechanicaly it is very unique, I think Charles must have been drunk when he designed his action.  Ledball

Tough question.  I have 5 Winchester 1885s, one Ballard, a couple of Stevens 44s.  Not sure if I like the 1885 better that the Ballard.  Maybe I need to buy a few more of each.

Bpjack- I like your thinkin', and wish I could buy a bunch.
And, win32-40- You are far braver than I. Never leave the side of the bench, table, or whatever with my rifles laying like that. Looks  iffy from here. Nice rifle, even if the cheek piece got put on wrong.

I think you are correct Jack.  I need a couple Maynards and a Farrow, maybe a Borchardt and a Bullard, plus a 44 and a 44 1/2 before I secure my opinion on Ballard  Cheesy

In '84 at Golden Co. The Coors Match alot of people there were wearing. T-shirts 2 variety. Two different captions both of witch were proven at the prize cerimony.  One read as fallows...
   "If Dr.Hudson was alive today he would be shooting a MILLER.
~~~~~the other ~~~shirt~~~~
     "Stand on your hind legs and shoot like a man"
I wanted one bad.
The main advantage of Deans masterpiece is locktime, its faster than most Bolt Rifle. With an inline striker that travels3/16. If you shot offhand much you know how important L.T. is.  A bad fallow through you my call a shots 2 at 5 oclock but you take a look and its a 16 at at 4:30.the same bad leggings with a Miller would be a 20 at 4:30.
   Jump the extractor in all the other rifles, you'll probably need a speacial tool to fix it,but the Miller fixxes it for you
Accept no substitutes g Cool
As far as classic and original single shot actions, the high wall Winchester with its modular construction and great strength is the hands down favorite.  My favorite configuration would be a special sporter with #3 or 4 octagon or half octagon barrel, schuetzen wide spaced DSTs and 32-40 chambering. High wall or low, the Winchester Single Shots define single shot-ness.
For modern actions, I defer to the late Charlie Dell who spent the latter half of his long life shooting, comparing and examining every kind of single shot action.  His hands-down favorite was the Peregrine and I'm still shooting a bench gun he built in his 32/357 chambering.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
I agree with Rebel.  My favorite is whatever I am shooting good at the time.
I have always wanted a Maynard, but never thought I could afford one until I started adding up how much I have spent on having rifles built or modified.   Smiley
I'm new here and also new to the BPCR community but my favorite was and is the 45-70 Springfield trapdoor. Fell in love with the looks of it as a kid and inherited it after my Grandfather died.
Now have two am building one just for shooting for fun and some match stuff.
