Scope for Aydt

I've been looking at the MVA #5 short repro scope, and the Earle adaptor for the dovetail barrel mount.  I'd appreciate feedback on either or both before taking the plunge.  Any takers?

Steve Earle's base is nicely made  and works very well. I use a Unertl scope with mine.  I have no experience with the MVA scopes.

I have one of the MVA scopes.  Understanding that they are a copy of the Winchester A5 (+/-, mostly +), I think they leave a bit to be desired and I would not buy another.  The scope does not use standard scope blocks and is, to me, sort of flimsy. What you do get is modern optics. MVA is a fine outfit, but the original was not a top-of-the-line scope.

I understand that there is another maker called DZ or some such.  A couple of people who have tried both say the DZ is better.

Personally, my final cost was $664, including shipping, etc.  For that much, you can find a pretty good Fecker or Lyman JTS.

If I had a Lyman Targetspot, I'd put it on the Steve Earle mount.

My suggestion, by the mount and put a STS, Fecker or Litschert on it.

Thanks.  I do have an extra STS, but it is overwhelming on the rifle.  Maybe a Fecker or JTS....

What do you mean by overwelming? To heavy or to much magnification?

I'm guessing "overwhelming" as in too large looking for the Aydt. A Lyman Junior Targetspot would look perfect, or one of the Feckers in lower magnification. Both scopes have very small objective bells, and look appropriate on older guns.

I held the STS up above the barrel and it looks all out of proportion.  A smaller scope on the scale of 12-18" would be ideal.  Guess I'll keep looking....thanks for the input guys.

I like my MVA B5 quite a bit.  The only thing I don't like about it is that every now and then the screw that allows you to adjust the reticule for level comes loose.

I like the DZ Arms one more for a few reasons.  8x rather than 5x, lots of elevation adjustment, Posa bases.

The MVA has thinner crosshairs which is nice.

Chris.

Mike, you might see Craig about a scope. Last OAC show he had quite a few for sale reasonably of the style you're looking for.

Not an Aydt---a Buechel but the rib on the top is the same. Pre-WW2 German scope with vertical adjustment only. The mounting system has the horizontal adjustment. The German Schuetzen movement did not use scopes, but some of the related hunting rifles did. I guess that this was made for a hunter. It is the only one that I have ever seen.

Here is what a Win 8x and a Litschert 15x looks like on my rifle. Also, what my Redfield 3200 looks like on my 22rf.

The Litschert is the one I use for all my AS OH work I think it looks good, myself. The Win 8x could be bought.

The Buchel scope, while not an authentic schuetzen sight is to my eye more in line with the scale of the rifle.  The Winchester as well.
Nicely done on both.
