Stevens info needed

On the Gunsinternational website they have a listing for a "Stevens Falling Block " in 45/70.  Would appreciate any information or comments on it. It just looks different to me . I'm on the steep part of the Stevens learning curve and still trying to learn the major models/types. Thanks !
Btw I called the Cabela's where it's at and it has already been sold.

If it’s a true Stevens than the shank is too small for a 45-70. If it is a CPA and whoever has it doesn’t know the difference than it should be OK. The reason that Paul Shuttleworth made the CPA 1/16” Thicker was to accommodate a Winchester size shank to make chambering 45 straight cases possible.

No tang, no screw heads. Does CPA make actions with just one trigger ?

It looks like a Stevens 44 1/2 but it has no tang and with no tang, manufacturer, or serial # I don't really know what it is.

I remember seeing something similar some years back from an outfit called (I think) Mid America Recreations?  Maybe one of theirs?  Doesn't look like a Stevens to me.

Regards, Joe

The Mid America 44 1/2s like the Bresine 44 1/2s were faithful copies of the Stevens. I have seen a few of the Bresines and one of the Mid Americas and neither had a block like the one shown. From the picture it is impossible to estimate the thickness of the action. I don't hhink it is a Stevens it looks to me like the side walls come up even higher than a 44 1/2.

The ad says it is original, but original what?   Cheesy  Not a Stevens.

It also looks to me that the hammer is hung on the breechblock, like a Winchester.  That pin high and to the rear might be the pivot for the sear.

The trigger is hung differently then either a Stevens or High Wall. There was a non-Stevens falling block at the Lima Ohio gun show a couple of shows ago. It was Stevens looking but larger in all dimensions. I don't remember if it had tangs or not, but the seller had it tagged as a 44-1/2.

It was not there this weekend and it looks like the one in the original post has found a home or sale has been pulled.

Pretty sure it's a Falling Block Works Model S. At least it certainly looks like one. It should be stamped on the left side of the receiver, unless someone removed it.

JerryH

If anyone has one for sale I would be interested in buying it.

After looking closer I'll say that it's not a Falling Block Works Model S, but a close copy of one. That may explain no manufacture or serial number stamps.
