Friend of mine that's a Parker shooter has a couple of Stevens SxS's. He uses them for Canoe Crow hunting when it's too risky to take a expensive shotgun. In fact we had it in a Crow blind for weeks ago, when rain was forecast. I owned one when I was a kid. Think it was a 335 the newer reproduction Stevens Catalogs have a lot of detail.

My observation is design was good, they suffered from soft parts. Mine fired if you slammed it too hard closing the action. His take is don't fix one easy and cheaper to buy another . Cherrys Fine Guns in Greensboro NC had a Stevens Hammer Double on line recently, nicely restored for less than any Professional SxS repair job .

Side note I just bought a Stevens 520 Pump 16 gauge. Same vintage as the SXS Stevens.  John Browning design I am told. Real puzzle it is too

I inherited my Dad's M235 outside hammer double 12 35 years ago.  I know he had it in the early '30's when he married.  Marked J. Stevens Arms & Tool Co.  Still dove hunt with it some.
