.

1.) Did winchester 1885 forends all have ebony inserts in the tips ?

2.) Some have long cut-outs in the underbelly for the main spring - some have just short cuts ?

3.) Is there a cut-out slot in the wood at the action end for an ejector plunger ?

- hope to see what transpires with these Q's

answers:
1. almost certainly
2. the longer cut is for flat mainsprings.
3. there is a notch in the end of some that were used on the .22s.

the very few that were set up for rimless ( like the '.06s) might be notched as well, never saw one apart.

Thank you calledflyer for that very educational information. A few of mine do not have ebony inserts, and I always thought they were replacement units.

I have about 5-6 forends + wood combination sets + lower tangs + actions that have been around for so long that I have to brush off the dust!

These were for those attempted projects that never ever got started.

I'm thinking of taking some pictures of them and sell them to an ASSRA member that will use them.
