I am researching a shooter named Samuel ( Sam ) Clark who used a Pope Winchester HighWall which I own.  Does anyone have any personal info or reference about him ?  He apparently was active in the 30"s and 40's.  Appreciate any help.  Thanks

I believe that Sam Clark is mentioned in Yours Truly by Harvey Donaldson. For some reason I think he might be an early shooter at the Pine Tree Bench Rest matches.

Please post a picture of your rifle. Is it the Hi-wall with the small pins in the trigger?

Again thanks for the replies. Tom-Trevor---it does not have pins in the trigger. A shooting kit with it has a multi-page journal kept by Clark and other evidence of his having used the gun. Looks like most of info I have so far on Clark is the writing by Donaldson .  Best to all who replied.

Bill Winfield owned that rifle with the ledger book and kit in the 1990s I believe. Look in the shooting kit for a piece of leather with tiny shirt pins sticking out of it. In the ledger I read he said he was having trouble jerking the trigger so he made this up so if he jerked the trigger it stuck him.
He may well have had more than one rifle as well. I may have seen a different rifle.

Please post a picture if you get time I would like to see if anything has been changed. One little nugget of history saved.
