Thanks John Boy.   I've used some off the web before but  I have not run any of those - so far for this I have only the SF off Tom's program.  Don't know how it stacks up against others.

Here is draft - and I know it is nothing like a scaled 375166 - just the drawing I started from.   For a 14 twist the program shows a Stability Factor of 2.31.

Many Thanks to Frank for helping me with a couple SW features I was overlooking.     I'll also draw this with a elliptical round nose but if I decide in that direction it won't be an Accurate Mold.

Best Regards,
John

Interesting bullet and mold LongDistance.  Since I answered the wieght and gas check question myself, can you tell me what it drops at and with what alloy.   Both bands and nose diameter?

Anybody else who is casting with this or the 358009 feel free to answer.   Thanks!

Well, I just found and read this that answered the weight question and I see it does have a gas check.

"3589 Mould/bullet
Length: 1.132”
Weight (as pictured): 279 grains
This mould and its predecessor, the Lyman 3589 is the most sought after bullet mould by mould collectors and
shooters all over the world. On E-Bay it always brings the top dollar.
Many discussions have been raised on many of the Cast Bullet forums as to why Lyman hasn’t seen fit to reintroduce
it again. In the mean time, many custom mould makers have turned out clones that worked very well. Mountain
Moulds will make one that is very good and in the past, David Mos has also made clones.
When you look at this bullet, it’s an awesome design and says “use me for big game”. The .35 Whelen pops into mind
and it takes a big .35 to handle it...
A 1-14 twist is the minimum it takes to stabilize this big brute for accurate shooting"...

Best Regards,
John

I bought this mold many years ago thinking to use it in a 35 Rem. 336 Marlin, and by the time I got it a friend dealt me out of the Marlin and I never got to try it. I think that it would have been too long to feed. The Marlin was a fun pickup rifle loaded with 140 gr HP pistol bullets it was instant death for jackrabbits.

I came up with oal @ 1.135

Hey there LongDistance.  Thanks for the info.   If you ever cast any with it would be very interested on those diameters.   Better yet, if you ever want anyone to cast a few from it then just let me know Smiley Smiley, be glad to volunteer:-)    If that bore section was somewhere just under .348 then it could be a real possibility.

The bullet I sketched out leaves me with some issues on seating depth vs powder capacity, so still have some ground to cover.

John

I'll fire up my lead pot within the next couple of days and make up a few, and let you know what it comes out at.
