JohnBoy, don't blame you for not doing a complete re-read. I decided along the meandering of this thread that I liked the 35-40 Maynard. However, I was limited on the twist available with TJ Liners. He dug one out to give me a 14 so there I am.
And Beltfed, you are right that I got one of those numbers wrong... had to be the case, unless my lands were on the outside of the barrel:-) Jeeze. Not sure what I could blame that on. Correct numbers = .357x.348.
And Joe, of course you are right, ceptin now I got the wheels back in the ruts and it's not the 38-55 as the thread title would indicate.
Ok, I was confused. With the title and the .368 (bore size for a .375 groove), I was sure that you were taking about a 38/55.
Scaling down the bullet shouldn't be much of a problem. You can use the same band and groove width's as the 166. Just change diameters. Scaled, the meplat should be .209. The radius will be computed by the program. Personally, I would leave the first band off and made the nose longer. I would also make the meplat .18. Both those things will make a more areodynamic bullet w/o effecting accuracy.
BSed bullets usually have a base band between .12 and .17 max. Fixed can have all bands the same, although I can't tell you the theroy behind it. A guess is that it helps fill the throat to keep from gas cutting. I like a wider base band for all PB bullets.
I'd be happy to answer any question about how to input the info.
