What cartridge?
Rifle, revolver or pistol?
Cast or jacketed bullets?

Same here. I love Unique, but would need to know all the specifics, plus what your manual says is a starting load.

There was an article on minimum loads for 38 Spcl. a number of years back.  The risk was sticking the bullet in the barrel.

They started with a mild (perhaps minimum) load and kept reducing it until the bullets stuck.

The first signs I got of going too light in straight walled cases was blowback around the outside of the case. Once you see the burnt gunpowder on the outside, it tells me there's not enough pressure to seal the chamber. That's when I go up to the previous load that left the outside clean.

Yes.
The Speer #13 manual has load notations marked "DNR" meaning "do not reduce", and explains why.

Hank,

Does the cast bullet happen to be the #225107 GC, or something else?
What is "the manual" and edition you mention?

So you're not just reducing the charge 1 grain.  You're also reducing it by some 30%.

That's a lot.

What's your objective with the reduced charge?  Less noise?  Less recoil?

Don't know if Hank is trying to work up a "cat sneeze", cellar or gallery load, or not.

My lo-wall was made in 1898 and my reason is to keep the pressures low and because I cannot use black powder on the indoors range that I use, Hank
