Looking through the "for sale ads" made me remember this page, not sure how many have seen it but it's a really good page with tons of information on very old and new cartridges.  If you have a casting and curious what your cartridge is this might help.  It doesn't have everything wildcatted but it has a lot.

Regarding the .38-50 Rem-Hep, I think it is wrong same as COW.  I think the true case length of a .38-50 Rem-Hep is 2.250 inches.
Only checked that cartridge, but will look forward to input from others. 
It does look like a valuable source of info though.
