Ruger 45-70 long barrel

A friend of mine just told me that Ruger once produced a long-barreled (26 inch) version of the Number 1 in 45-70. I know about the 30 inch cased guns but have never heard or a 26 inch version. Can anyone verify they did produce one?

If your rifle is not in 7.62 and you can't hit what you are aiming at with de-linked machinegun ammo you are a pretender.

They were produced as a distributor exclusive for Lipsey's I believe. They don't show any now. All Ruger #1's are distributor exclusives now and the price is way up and availability down. I think the life of the Ruger #1 is near the end. What a shame, they are the sexiest looking production rifle out there.

Between 250 and 500 of the 26" C-weight barrel 45-70's were made in th past couple of years. The one I have came with Circassian walnut and the more extensive checkering pattern. It shoots pretty well and handles a LOT better than the light 22" barreled version in my opinion.

P.S. the Lyman commemorative alluded to had 28" heavy (D-weight) barrels, not 30"

There are three of 28" barreled Lyman 45-70 on Gunbroker at the moment. For those prices you could purchase a whatever caliber Ruger No. 1 and have it rebarreled with any length/caliber/twist Krieger barrel you want (I'm thinking 44-70 Maynard based on 45-90 brass).

Glenn - 2x CPA 44 1/2 w/22LR (Shilen ratchet-rifled & Bartlein 5R rifled), 38-40RH & 38-55WCF (Bartlein 5R rifled) & 40-65WCF (GrnMtn 'X') barrels
