Tippmann Arms Roller

Tippmann Arms is producing a new Remington rolling block rifle in .357 mag or .44 mag.

I am a dealer for Tippmann and asked about other chamberings, they said maybe later but not any time soon.

Here's the web addr.

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

Look at "Products" for pages about the guns. Here is some data on the .357 mag version:

It has a 27.5 inch stepped round barrel thicker through the action and forearm, thinner thereafter, weighs 7 pounds. Steel buttplate, walnut stock and forearm, barrel thread is 1 1/8"-24.

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

Adjustable blade front sight, barrel-mounted buckhorn rear sight. Coil hammer-spring. Made in the US, Tippmann has been around a long time but this SS rifle is new. MSRP is $899.00.

When I get one in, I'll do some pictures, shoot it enough for a fair trial and write up a brief (and straightforward) review for this board.

Kind regards, Salvo

Is the tang drilled & tapped for a tang sight?  What is the trigger pull like?  Could it be made to work for offhand?  Can the front sight be replaced with something like a 17A?

If you look at his link, almost all those questions are answered there, except the D&T for tang sight.

I'm curious about the tang sight question too. - And I want to see how it shoots of course.

I have to sell my varminter to finance the purchase, this close to the holidays. I'm hoping to be able to report soon.

Kind regards,
Salvo

Looking at the length of the hammer spur, I doubt that there is any room for a tang sight.

Keep on hav'n fun!

MikeT,

Good eye Mike, an important observation.

Why did they mess with a classic and proven design and put on that ugly hammer?

The proportions of the action look wrong, its not just the hammer, and that stepped barrel looks butt ugly to me. To me it's a poor attempt at a copy of a Remington Rolling Block. It's not pleasing to the eye.

Make sure to wear shooting glasses when handling that rifle.

Yes, I agree Harry. It's not a very flattering clone. When I see how reasonable an old military or Swede Rolling Block is for  a project gun, I wonder why someone wouldn't just buy one of them, and build up something decent for an entry level gun. Only a small amount more money, and you'd have something nice.

I think some of the problems with the proportions of the rifle are do to poor graphics. The image is stretched for some reason. A look at the pdf of the manual shows the proportions as closer to the original. Does not account for the hammer spur though. The cross section appears quite complete and does not show any indication of tapped holes for a tang sight or plug screws for same.

It is an economical entry level gun, but the choice of calibers could be broader. Perhaps 22RF or Hornet.

Stretching it out makes it look better.  In the other pictures in your link, action profile looks all wrong for a roller. They did it on purpose? What was the purpose and why is that hammer so long and huge? Looks almost dangerous to me. Looks more like a spike sticking out there.

Maybe there's one of those lawyer warnings rollstamped on the barrel? "Be careful not to fall down with hammer pointed up! May cause serious injury, or eye loss!"

Drilling and tapping the receiver ring for a scope block isn't the brightest idea in the book either,  Shocked See the sectioned drawing here:-

Looks like a computer generated drawing. The rifle looks like it was then constructed by robots. That works for PCP air rifles, not antique style rolling block rifles. If TAR had offered a correctly proportioned rolling block action only, in the white, they would sell.

Not many positive comments on this board. Not much positive about the TAR rifle.
