Not sure if it is still available but there was a dvd of Wallace Gussler hand making a M/L long rifle in the traditional way at the blacksmiths forge in Colonial Williamsburg where he worked there as the master gunsmith. Of particular interest was the barrel which was hand forged from a flat skelp of iron, then hammer welded and finally reamed and rifled. I believe this took two guys over a week to do.
The last time I was at the spring shoot at the NMLRA range in Friendship Wallace had a booth on commercial row, perhaps the NMLRA association can help with details as to where the disc can be bought.
