Whoever it is - it's military.  1500 yds or meter elevation

I like the gun. Have a couple one in .32 and one in .22. To me the sights are a bit of over kill on this one but they should work well. Good adjustment.

It looks like the sight for a Savage Model 1919 (I think) NRA .22 target rifle.  This was Savage's version of the military style .22 rifle everybody put out after the end of WWI.  I put one on my Savage 23B, which has the same action, beefed up for small centerfires.

I think this is a Stevens rear sight.  Pictured below is the rear sight off my Stevens 416, bold action .22 target rifle"

I've seen a number of 416 rifles with these sights on them, so I am reasonably sure the sights are original and Stevens.

Your sight is of identical design, from the way the elevation is marked out down to the spring steel plates under the elevation and windage knobs.  Those provide the clicks.

The only difference between the two sights (aside from the parkerizing on the 416) is that the two sights are mirror images - yours adjusts for windage on the right side, mine on the left.

Maybe someone with more experience in small bore sights of the period can say if this sight design showed up on other rifles of the period.

Second view of the Stevens 416 sight.  If more detailed pics of the sight would help, I'd be happy to take them.  These are crops from pictures taken for inventory purposes.

Thanks to all who replied, and Smoke a picture is worth a thousand words! If you decide to get rid of that base I know someone who would love to have it. This is one thing I really like about the ASSRA forum, if you have a question you can get it answered, from all of the knowledge of the members here. Thanks again for the help. Bonner

Isn't this kinda the same reasoning behind puttin a 30x scope on a rabbit rifle?      Wink

I think I have seen that stock on Gunbroker or EBay. Sure looks familiar. No idea who made it but I am pretty sure it wasn't Stevens.
