Ah, HA!

The firing pin isn't tight in it's hole.  I see the primer cup flowing into the annular clearance, enough that it is sticking there so that the breechblock is pulling the primer part-way out when the action is opened.

I'm with Dave on this one. While it may have a sloppy firing pin hole in addition, this series of photos demonstrates way overloaded signs of primer flow.  Maybe that block is springing back, the rim is thin, and all the rest; but it looks like overloads to me.

I'd restart load development again only AFTER both the excess headspace and the sloppy firing pin tip to block fit has been repaired by a qualified gunsmith.

Thank you Gentlemen! I appreciate the diagnosis, and will get the rifle repaired. I see exactly where your thinking is going through the signs and symptoms, and agree with the final conclusions!

Again, thank you immensely!  Cheesy

Guys, you are right that the load is pushing the primer into the firing pin space, but that's not what is leaving the primers so high.  A Model 44 doesn't flex that much.  And even if it did, the primers would be pushed back in by the springback.  If the headspace really is .012", the primers would be protruding by only that much, no more.  One or two of those are two or three times that.

I've never seen anything like that before, but I've been studying the 44 action closely enough for long enough that I'm confident with what I wrote.  The deformed primers are sticking so tight in the hole that the breechblock is pulling them out.

The primers are not loose in the pocket.  That's why no carbon ring.

I certainly agree that the rifle needs prompt attention.   But his load is not excessive for a 44 in good condition.  Calculates to something like 20k psi in Quickoad.
