Slug guns are percussion muzzle loading arms, Pete. We know what you mean though.  Wink

Joe, I know, you  know, what we both know ...but this the closest to a "Chunk" gun for me. I'll shoot my trusty Lancaster 50 Flinter if it comes to a Match against your Beast, maybe a Pic now? Pete

I don't have one, but recently saw a 25# .32-40 on an SST highwall action for sale up here in Canuckville for a very reasonable price.   I didn't buy it because the safe is full Smiley

Pete, yer a braver man than I. Not for lugging that monster, but for having the cajones to lay it in the middle of a glass table! Pretty neat things you guys- makes my stuff look dainty.

Here is another one for you guys to look at. It's a Ballard (Cody) action, Krieger barrel, 38-50 Rem and as you can see from the false muzzle & bullet starter, it's a muzzle loader. Weight is approximately 20 lbs.
This has been a project gun that does not yet have all the pieces but I should get to shooting it in the next couple of weeks.

Hi Randy, I like that rifle! Makes me want to rebore my .22 short Ballard (1 3/16" across flats) to .25 and set aside my Ruger no. 3  1 1/4" bull .25 project.

Schuetzendave wrote on Nov 10th, 2015 at 5:32pm:
Wayne Tellier bought it Chris.
He had it at the gun range on Sunday.
It also came with a 20X Lyman Targetspot scope.

Wayne is going to put a different barrel on the HighWall.

He said the barrel is for sale (2.0 inches between the flats)

Dave do you know who made the barrel?  I wasn't planning on buying it, but I'm just curious.  I heard once that Ron Smith made a few heavy barrels in the past.  Not sure if it's true but I imagine you would know Smiley

RSW that looks like a most excellent rifle.  How was the false muzzle done on the Kreiger barrel?

Randy, your Ballard is my idea of the perfect heavy barrel bench gun. Very nice.

Looks like enough pieces to go a shootin to me.

Not being a gunsmith or machinist, I can give you only a broad brush narrative of how it was made. If I have the story correct, it came out of Ballard Rifle Co. (Cody) but it could have come from the Wyoming Armory shop, I’m not clear on that point. A long bore cast was made of the muzzle end of the barrel (probably cerrosafe or some such material). That slug was pushed further into the barrel and a short section of barrel cut from the muzzle and finished as the false muzzle. The barrel slug was pushed out to protrude from the muzzle and used for aligning the false muzzle. Holes for alignment pins were then drilled and all that sort of stuff.
I’ve muzzle-loaded a couple of bullets as a test and false muzzle and barrel seem to have the rifling perfectly aligned.
There don’t seem to be any 30-40 Krag cases to be had anywhere right now, so I’m going to make some 38-50 Rem cases out of 405 Win as soon as the makins’ arrive. It’ll take some work but it’s doable.

@RSW    As of yesterday there were some .303 British cases for sale on Gunbroker.   Would they do?
