Col Bodine and Arthur Leech ...

Many of you will recognize these names.  Col John Bodine was the captain of the American Creedmoor team and Arthur Leech was the captain of the Irish Creedmoor team.

Arthur Blennerhassett Leech also wrote the book Irish Riflemen in America published in 1875 detailing the Irish rifle team experiences at the Creedmoor match of 1874 (?) and the time they spent travelling through the US afterwards.

Years ago, Michael Petrov listed photos of a very distinct Rolling Block Creedmoor rifle built by LL Hepburn.  Col Bodine is shown in a drawing from Harper's Weekly in 1875 holding a rifle with the same features.  I bought this rifle from its owner (not the Petrov estate) and hope to research the location of the original photo.

If anyone has suggestions for books regarding the Creedmoor Matches, please share them with me.

Thank you,
Joe

Joe,
Is this the rifle you refer to?

Ned Robert's book "The Muzzleloading Cap Lock Rifle"  cover the match in Ch 6.

Thanks to Joe Do.. and to 45govt for posting these wonderful period photos of two highly skilled marksmen from the Creedmoor period, one of which is dated 1880.

Very considerate of you both.
