Stevens 25-20 Single Shot Bullet Casting Mold (Read 4139 times)

	I'm in the process of assembling components for reloading the 25-20 SS. I have brass, powder, and dies, but have a question on bullet casting molds: The mold I believe is a correct one is marked; 257 464 132 From reading info on the Lyman Ideal molds, I believe the important number is 257, which indicates sized bullet diameter. The 464 is the number the mold maker uses to keep track of mold models, etc. and the 132 is the one to match the mold halves. If this is incorrect, I'd appreciate some help where needed. I read lots if info and tried not to get confused. The other question I have is what is the best alloy for this bullet as well as the lube I should use. The bore on my rifle is well worn, but I've been told it may just shoot pretty good, so I'd like to try it before deciding if I want to change anything. I appreciate any and all help!

	Dave, How about this one. It's a 257420 that I cut the GC off of. I shoot it in my 18 twist Ballard, BSed. Frank

	So I believe the mold I have is incorrect? Am I interpreting the nomenclature in the Lyman website correctly? What length bullet do I need for this load/ Thanks!

	My old Lyman book shows the 257454 as a 92 grain (#2 alloy) semi-spitzer). Judging by Dave's input, it doesn't sound like a good bullet to evaluate if your worn bore can still shoot accurately.

	MJT, you are reading the mold allright, it probably isn't a bullet for the work you want to try. I checked and found that the 257464 bullet is, like, 89grs. and gascheck style. Probably good for something like a .250 Savage, .257 Roberts, or similar. Something shorter,like the guys are suggesting would be better for you. But, what the heck, shoot some just for grins.

	Understand. Thanks for the clarification. I'll try another length. What about needing a gas check in a worn bore?
