As some know I had my borchardt at Lozito shop in new York.  He passed away.  His widow has now found my rifle, finally.  But no internal parts. Now she has to find them. At least it is progress.

Sad situation, and I feel for the wife and you! Hopefully the vultures haven't been in there feeding before she finds your parts!

Hi Val, no vultures yet.several of our members shared some contacts with her on would be honest.  Gary Quinlan was one. She promised  not to get rid of any thing until she finds the rightful owners.

I understand that problem. I had a Sharps Borschardt worked on by Creighton Audette and he kept it 5 years, I was afraid he was going to die before I got my gun back. I was plumb out of the mood to shoot it when I finally got it back and it took a couple of years before I even shot it.

I recently went through the process of finding and reworking parts for a Long Range Borchardt. The owner had it apart trying to improve the Trigger. He fell ill and was not able to get back to it for quite some time and when he did he could not find the Breech Block and Lever. Now this was a pristine condition Rifle. He knew I had an original LR Breech block, they are slightly different. He made a trade for it and I agreed to modify a Military Lever. Got some stuff from Mike Petrov's estate. Got it all working smoothly and had it all Case Colored.
Came out very nice although a little stiff. I tried to buy it but he said Fitz you would be my first candidate but Allen asked for first refusal when I first got it. So I just went along and did the work and Allen ended up with it. These are close friends any how and that is more important than acquiring a new toy.
Hope you find all the stuff for your Zischang Mike hard to see stuff like that get lost. Regards, FITZ. Smiley

Mike,
Have you considered sending Mrs Lozito a picture(s) of the parts of the action, Breechblock, striker, pins, springs, trigger bar, cocking cams, lever etc. They're most likely all in one box and it may be she doesn't know what to look for. I think she may appreciate a little assistance.

It's a 'shot in the dark', but it may help.

Harry.

Thanks to all for the wonderful advice. She has pictures and I will remind her that all should be in one box.

Mike,
Did you notice if your Borchardt had the normal Breech Block or the Long Range Rifle Breechblock. Zischang used the latter frequently in his Schuetzen and mid range rifles to lighten the weight of the finished rifle.

Zischang may have altered the standard Breech Block to LR specifications himself or he could have bought them already finished from the company of Schuyler, Hartley and Graham also in New York, who were, in the 1880-1900 period the largest surplus arms  purveyors in the world. They purchased all the stock of finished rifles and all spares left after the Sharps Rifle Co., went to the wall. Zischang's shop was also in NY so he didn't have far to go to get any spares he may have needed.

If you need a picture of the LR breech block I can Email one to you. It may assist Mrs Lozito in finding your rifle. Don't forget you want the DST's for the rifle as well.

Harry

Hello Mike,
The email I sent to you bounced back overnight. I have corrected my error and resent it to you. I am also posting the two pictures here showing the LR Rifle Breech Block. Pictures courtesy of the late Michael Petrov.

Harry.
