#9 is around and will probably be your best bet until you can get 4100 / Enforcer. Also I would look at H110 and 2400 as powders that will work. Lil gun is a flake powder and dosen't drop as well as a ball powder it gives higher velocity spreads, I think that 1680 will be a litle slow for your application but it has been used well in 32-40s.

40_Rod, I wonder if you have any data with the 1680 and 200 grain bullets in 32-40. I have a pound of it I bought many years ago that has no use to me otherwise. I thought I might try it, and wondered if you had a good starting point?

Lilgun is not a "flake" powder, but rather a flattened ball powder. Much thicker than a flake powder. It drops with the same or better consistency as ball powder. Extremely accurate in my 32 Krag and 32-40s. Have not tried it in anything else.

Thinking of trying a new powder myself--- So, where is some data on Lil Gun in a .32-40? I don't know what charge weights and info about velocity, sudden pressure spikes etc. It's nice to hear it could be worthwhile, but I could use the help along with 'Cat. Maybe it's time to start looking beyond my ol' standbys of 4227 and 4759, now that the latter is a goner.

Calledflyer, My initial post was asking about Lil' Gun or 1680 for a.25-20 WCF CPA Stevens and a .327 Federal Magnum in a rebarreled Ruger No. 3, since 4100 seems to gone until the last of the year according to an email I got from Hodgdon. 
I don't know how either would work for .32-40.

George, your opening post seems to have magically disappeared.  All I had to go by was the header. If I remember correctly, Hodgdon had Lilgun load data for the 32-40.

I have only messages here starting with 40Rod replying to you. Didn't know what the original query was. But, the subject of that powder had taken a turn toward the .32-40, so I went along for the ride. But, heck, I hope we all can learn how to use the stuff in our cartridges. Seems like most of the info for it is in Hornets and pistols. Good luck on the search. 
I did see Hodgdon's load data, but further reading seems to indicate that not everybody has good luck with this powder. Just wanted some info more up my alley. Thanks Joe.

I just tried to look up the 25-20WCF on Hodgdon loading data. LilGun not listed for it. 

Welcome to single shots! Many times we are on our own. Just because they don't list it doesn't mean it won't work. Might be excellent. Start low and work up watching for signs of pressure.  The low pressures we use with plain base cast bullets allows plenty of leeway. I might try it in my 25-20SS one of these days.

Maybe it was Accurate loading I couldn't find the .25-20 WCF.
Anyhoo, here is Hodgdon's loading for .25-20 WCF using an 86 gr. bullet.
I will be casting MOS 120 gr. bullets for my CPA Stevens .25-20 and casting 170 gr. bullets for my Ruger SS in .327 Federal Magnum.  
Would anyone like to make some powder and starting loads suggestions?

My only experience is in the Hornet, (K-Hornet to be precise).  It's great in the Hornet for 2500+ fps loads using a 45 grain jacketed bullet.   Rifle is a 24 inch barrel Stevens 44 1/2.

When I went after a reduced load that would duplicate the .22 rimfire magnum, (2000 fps. with a 40 grain bullet), the velocity variance went to pot.  I get the idea that it wants to be above 20Kpsi.

Thanks y'all. The info about the Hornet was my suspicion confirmed. That is, it likes more intensity than most of my loads. Yet, Joe says it's working fine for him. What's a lug like me to do? Thank goodness for all that 4227 in the cabinet.

I said it works excellent in my 32-Krag and 32-40s. Low velocity plain base lead bullet loads.
