Testing ..... Primers? (Read 5223 times)

	Tried testing some 300-MP @ 200 in my .32-20CPA. Used some brass previously primed with Rem 7 1/2s. ES as much as 120, Typical SD of 30 -40. Horizontal was fine; but verticals were way up & down - 2" or more. Does this sound like the primer? As soon as I get a chance, I'll repeat the tests with Fed 205s and CCI BR4s. My stock and my rest are both rock solid. Any thoughts? Thanks.

	Shooting bench depends on your technique. Do you grip the rifle in the rest or free recoil? It does/will make a difference.

	When used with the 32-40 case the 300 MP requires a magnum primer. With the CPA 32-20 your going to have to use the hottest primers that you can find. if that isn't working try modifying a 32-20 shell to take a large rifle primer and use magnums. 40 Rod

	I had the same problem in my 33 ELCO Max. Using 7 1/2 Rem primers, 300MP gave 80 fps ES, and poor accuracy, where #9 gives 13 fps and the best accuracy of all the powders I tested. Frank

	I use a RCBS Range Master 750 digital scale and a Harrell's Schuetzen measure. I weigh every 5th load and, if off weight, weigh previous loads until I find the "off spot". Readjust, weigh, etc. Only then do I place the wad at the case mouth. (Either FF or 3/16" cork. I work with both.) I trust my loads to be within .1 without exception. Next tests will include using some CCI 450's. FWIW, I have not had similar results with 4100 (Ramshot Enforcer) & either 205-M, 205-MAR, or BR4 primers. (Not the 7 1/2s which were left over from testing with my .25-20WCF. I'm just working with the 300-MP because my supply of 4100 is dwindling and I figure it's wise to have a reliable, tested backup. I am also working with AA#9, Win 296, H-110 among others. The chrony and its setup are the same - also my bench, rest & hold are as consistent as practicable. Thanks.

	What was your powder charge as it sounds like it might be on the light side, 300MP is a slower burning powder than most and it requires a tad more to be used? JLouis

	Powder charges went from 10.5 - 12.5.
