I used the same loads I used for my .32-40 Win. cartridges. So very similar in capacity that they worked great.

My best load is 12.0 gr of 4227, breech seated with a 190 gr bullet.

With your heavier bullet, try going up to 13.0 gr, 1/2 gr at a time.

Does it have a "German" chamber?

Chris,
There are quite a few "German" chambers. Do you have a particular one in mind?

My Buechel has the "Normalised" chamber. I use 14.5 grn of IMR4227 with excellent results.
I also have a Boar rifle with a break action which has differences in the chamber. I shoot this a lot at 50 and 100yds and my favourite load is 10grn Blue Dot. This gives an amazingley low standard deviation when chronographed.
Both sets of cases are loaded without dies, thumb seating the stop-ring bullet.

not sure how to answer that. I would say it has a 8.15x 46r chamber made in America.  It is not a German rifle.  It does take RWS  brass straight out of the box with no modification.
Hope that helps,

There is a possiblity that you could have this chamber, by PTG or one of more than five other "German" chambers.

My System Will chamber fits right in between the Old Stahl and the Old RWS. Mine was made in 1924 and should be a "Normal" chamber so, the Normal standard wasn't very standard.

I have 2 8.15x46R rifles, a Martini stalking rifle from the late 1880s and an Aydt with a barrel date of 1928.  The two are really chambered for 2 different cartridges.  They are what they are, both are fun to shoot and pretty accurate once you learn how to defeat those funnel-shaped throats.

But we in America learned how to make proper single shots that shoot plain based lead bullets in the .30 to .33 range quite a few years back.  Why would anyone today handicap themselves and devalue the rifle they are building by selecting the 8.15x46R case?

I wondered that myself when I bought them (2) but I was really buying the  DeHaas Miller action,  if I can make them shoot, then I won't mess with it.   Or barrel to something else to play with.  I like being contrary anyway!

There is really nothing wrong with the case itself it is very similar to the 32-40 if I am thinking about the right case. I have seen a few Millers chambered for it and they shot extremely well with breach seated bullets. I really don't think it takes anything away from the value of a rifle chambered for it especially a Miller.

Alan,  I'm still experimenting with my 8.15s, trying different loads and bullets.   I started with 4759 but ran into powder measure problems and switched to 4227, starting at 12 gr and working my way up in search of accurate offhand loads.

Obviously a wide range of chamber/throat/leade dimensions in rifles chambered for this cartridge. many of the old european ones were built by "local" gun builders" even before the cartridge dimensions were "Normalized"  and even after there could be differences in how a "normal" chamber reamer was used even if the reamer itself was based on a more or less standard set of dimensions.    IN addition to the cartridge dimensions there are variations in configuration of the throat and leade into the rifling.  I'd not be surprised to find that the US reamer makers have a slight variety of reamers for the cartridge. I can imagine someone using a chambered cast from a "GI souvenir" antique rifle as a pattern to create a new chamber reamer and end up replication older pre-normal cartridge dimensions

I have 4 nominally 8.15x46 rifles three euro-schuetzens and one schuetzen-style rifle based on a customized Ruger#3. After making careful chamber casts I find that NONE of them are the same (and one has turned out to be chambered for an 8.15x52 variation.   ALL will accept a standard new unfired 8.15x46r RWS factory case.  However once fired there are variations in the length/position, and angle of the slight shoulder of the case (with the x52 being considerably longer OA with a shoulder farther forward)
If breach seating modern tapered 32-40 type bullets, once the cases are fire formed to the specific chamber all will work well.

However if one desires to use stop ring bullets one must take care to select--or commission----molds that are carefully designed to fit the specific chamber/cartridge mouth and the throat and leade.

And additional thing to bear in mind is that these rifles and there cartridges were designed and created for offhand match shooting or for offhand hunting.  They are not built and stocked for benchrest competition.

If my memory serves correctly, when Millers came on the schuetzen scene back when Coors was the big supporter and prior to the 32 Miller Short, they offered to chamber in 32 cal version of the 8.15X46R. That would probably have been '84-'86? Your rifles might be from that time frame. If by chance you know the name of the original owner, it's possible the loading data is in the old match results. The ASSRA archivist probably has a full set.
Lacking that info, just treat it like a 32-40 and load appropriately. There is plenty of load data available in the section on schuetzen loads. Those Millers are hell-for-strong so you needn't worry about approaching max loads for plain base bullets.
Millers are fine actions and should give lifetime-plus service.

There are indeed two Americas. Simply put, it is not the haves and have nots. The two Americans are in reality divided into those who do and those who don't.
