Just a thought, how about case length being too long for the chamber?

If the mouth is over belled you can run the case, bullet seated, back into the sizer die just a bit to iron the flare out. Just remove the dies de-capping rod first.

Sloppy chambers will allow cartridges with lot of bell to the case mouth to fit. Nice one's won't

Try to seat the bullet with very little bell.  I get away with chamfer not bell. Bullet shape makes a difference too, most intended for fixed have a little bevel on the bullets base to help inserting. Molds that are intended for breech seating have sharp base edges that can be hard to insert into a fixed case.

I think you are right on both accounts Boats . The only reason I even wanted to load some fixed ammo was to more fully fire form 30-30 cases . I tried a 32-40 WCF case with just a little bell at the case mouth, not enough even to start the bullet and the case with no bullet will not even seat . I tried just a chamfer on the case mouth and was able to seat the bullet but still will not chamber . Also no bulge in the case is noted and the diameter is .340 " with a .322 bullet inserted . Mr. Shuttleworth told me that chamber is exactly .340". Like you stated the CPA is not a sloppy chamber and really is designed for breech seating only . This is the first real good quality custom rifle I have ever owned. I have had Ruger's , Remington"s , Savage's ect... But really if we are being honest there is no real quality comparisons between factory verses a CPA rifle ! I'am just not used to the exact on specs .I'am going to take Paul Shuttleworths advice and get the Lyman M die . That is what he does with each piece of brass before shooting it to get a better chamber seal. He does not bother to first use a fixed bullet cartridge . Thanks

Boats I forgot to mention that yeah the bases of my bullets have very sharp crisp edges. You are right this mold was built and designed for CPA rifles for breech seating not fixed cartridges . . Maybe I will try one of those 20.00$ cheap Lee molds in 32-40 WCF. I will bet I could then seat those bullets and they might chamber better in order to fire form the 30-30 cases ?

Why not use a quick powder and some paper wadding?

Some notes on this subject:

1. The Winchester brass that I've used, has a thickness at the mouth of .010, subtract that from a the chamber dia and that gives .320 (2x.010 = .020. .340 - .020 = .320). To get .320 id from your die, you need a .3205/.3207 expander, because of spring back.

2. I like Bob's suggestion but, I would use C of W or corn meal. I have a Lyman 55 set up with corn meal in it, for that purpose. I'd start with 10 gr Unique or 8 gr of B'eye and cap it off with a grease wad.

3. After fire forming, the neck dia with right at .339 because of spring back so, if your thinking that after fire forming, the case will be .340, it won't be.

4. That brings us to the suggestion that, why not just use the expander to open your cases for a seal and shoot your cases while testing loads and forming them to the chamber body.

When I got my Schuetzen CPA in 32/40 took 50 38/55 WW cases out of a 500 lot that I had been using in my earlier BPCS CPA and sized them down to 32/40

10 have been used for breech seating remaining 40 fixed with a 125 gr bullet out of a Raphine mold sub sonic for gallery shooting. Gallery they usually shoot lights out target illumated so you need fixed cartridges.

Bullet has a beveled base and drops at about .321, from memory. Easy to load and gallery scores have always been about the same as .22 LR same range  gun and sights.

One of the nearby gallery matches is no more and the other is a fairly long wintertime drive.  Have not shot it in several years. Sure miss good gallery competition

Worth investing in a 32 mold with a beveled base if you plan on shooting fixed offhand. Bench breech seating is the way to go. Offhand fixed ammo is going to turn in higher scores. Due offhand 90 % mental not equipment. Less you have to think about loading better you can focus on the target.

It is when you ever so slightly bell the case mouth just enough to seat a bullet that the case with or without a bullet will not chamber.

Think you've answered your own question. Stop belling the mouth of the cases.

OR, bell, seat, and then gently crimp. (It hurt to type that - because turning the bell back in by crimping is not likely to improve accuracy.)
