30-20 fixed

I've been shooting 30-20 breach seat only.  I would like to try shooting fixed ammo.  Any suggestions as to dies, neck sizing vs full length resizing, crimping(shooting only in single shot rifle)?

If your rifle is a modern custom with a fast twist, some of the following may not be of much help.  I shoot an original Stevens Ladies Model 32-20.  I use the old Lyman 3118, cast soft (25/1) and sized .312.  There are modern equivalent molds  available--anything between 100 and 125 gr. I use H108 and velocity is around 1100 fps.  Very accurate.  Size the case just enough that you have enough neck tension to keep the bullet in place.  If you want decent accuracy, DON'T CRIMP.

Leon, how do you size the neck?  All my cases are fire formed.

I use an Accurate Molds #312133 135 gr bullet, which is similar to the Lyman 30 carbine bullet but a little larger diameter.  11.5 gr IMR 4227 gives good accuracy fixed. Velocity is 1375 fps.  It won't shoot with BS'd loads but it's close.  I use a .322 bushing die which seems to extend the case life considerably.

I'm shooting a CPA Stevens 44 1/2 in 32 20 but the barrel is .308 which is chambered for breech seating but I also shoot fixed loads for more casual plinking.   The twist is 1/12.   

My fixed load is 14 grains of 2015 or 9.6 grains of AA #9 and a 175 grain bullet.   They both give a muzzle velocity of around 1450 f/sec.   I re-size the cases so the bullets are a snug fit in the case  mouth and load them long.   The bullets are pushed farther into the case as they are seated in the chamber.

While not as accurate as breech seating but acceptable.

150 gr bullet of my own design, cast in 16:1  alloy with 16.7 grains of Swiss 1 1/2 Fg in fireformed cases,  small pistol primers, bullet seated hard into the rifling.
All of this in a Small-action BSA Martini with aperture sights.  Shoots well if I do my part.

If you're asking me that question I'm using a neck resizing die I made myself.

I seat the bullets just far enough into the case to hold them with my fingers.
