I can do a buy on any design but, there must be 10 people, per buy. The prices for 2 cav molds (no single cav) in a buy is:

$67 for aluminum
$86 for brass

I wouldn't be included with the RL because I already have one. I couldn't include myself on the pictured PJ either as, I don't have the twist rate.

I thought that it might be easier to get 10 buyers over the 3 caliber range especially since 30 caliber and 33 caliber are harder to come by.

Don't take my word for it, ask some of the other machinist on this form that have run CNC machines but, here is my answer to your question:

The reason that inturpolation will work and have no run out in mold making is because when doing so, the HSS cutter is very stiff for it's lenght and will brake, rather than bend when cutting but, the main reason is that you have at least 6 cutting edges in a modern cherry and the chip load is very light when doing it this way. You can not create enough load to deflect the cherry if the feed rate is right. It will actually machine a more accurate cavity. The machine movement is complicated but, because it's computor generated inturpolate will give a exact circle and a excellent finish.

Regarding the second cavity, he has never offered 2 different molds in the same cavity. I'll ask about it if I can get this going.

Joe,

The nice thing about CNC is that you can interpolate as nuclearcricket and Frank have described; and some software allows you to input the cutter diameter you are using as a part of the program, so you can then go in at a later stage and update the program be telling the computer that you’ve changed to a cutter that is slightly larger or smaller in size, and the program will then compensate for the changed input in cutter size, while the computer doesn’t know that the same cutter still remains installed.

Joe, you've regularly used the earlier mechanical pre-CNC form of interpolation without using the dividing head, and done it on your engine lathe when using a boring bar or a d-bit, and backing the cross-slide out a touch to make a cut and enlarge the hole.     Wink

You using the same bit and moving your cross-slide works about the same as me leaving the same cutter installed and me telling the computer I've changed the diameter of my cutter.    Smiley

Duly noted but, remember that there has to be 10 buyers before this can go forward.

Also, the RL bullet will work in a 15 twist (nothing slower) rifle where my bullet will stabilize in a 14 twist and faster barrel, with a noticable increase in BC over the RL.

The drawing of my bullet was gone for a day. I modified the meplat to a radius edge, rather than a shape edge. I had forgot to do that when I first designed it.

For those who's needs can be met by a stock bullet, this thread offers an number of good options. If your needs are particular to an individual rifle, there is more than one way to skin a cat. For those individual needs, a custom bullet mould is the way to go.
I have purchased more than a half dozen moulds for various rifles from Steve Brooks of Tru-Bore Moulds and have been pleased with all of them. I recommend if you are considering a custom mould that you make a chamber cast with CerroSafe and measure it so you get a bullet that fits your rifle properly. Brook's moulds are lathe bored and he delivers in about a month, sometimes less. He uses iron blocks with three alignment pins and heavy sprue plates.
His moulds are not cheap but they will outlast your shooting career unless mistreated. For details, check out his web site:

Randy I totaly agree with your approach as there is no need to buy a bullet mould just because it might be close to what you want, might work and supposedly is a good deal when you can have a mould made that fits your needs and your rifle exactly. 

I also agree with the quality of Steve's moulds.

I also have a mold made by Steve Brooks. I sent Steve a drawing, to make to my specs. It cost over $200 with shipping and was NOT made to the specs that I requested. It ran .0005 to small at the base band and .001 to small at the first band. He offered to remake it but, I declined hoping that (by chance I guess) that I could get it to shoot. Had it been to large in those same areas, it might have worked. He does make high quality molds and is the best custom mold maker, at this time.

The idea behind these molds is to offer a way to fit a tapered mold to a much larger range of barrels and chambers. A .002 - .003 taper is standard in BSed bullets. I've not found the configuration of the throat to be of any importance to accuracy, other than the amount of pressure it takes to BS the bullet. I have standard 32/40 chambers, freebored throats and Schuetzen throat ( no neck and 30 deg in front of the case mouth) they all shoot at the same level of accuracy. 

The taper is to help center the bullet at the start of BSing and to reduce the amount of pressure to put it at the BSing depth that you choose.

The base band is also extremely important and MUST seal the throat and this is where the design is important. With these molds it makes it much easier to get a bullet that will seal the throat and fill the groove of the barrel as well as a custom tapered mold will.

Many custom molds don't use the ogive as a supporting feature of the bullet. It will be bore size or smaller. This one uses the ogive to help support and align the bullet. Custom mold makers that cater to our sport, don't use radi grooves because they can't do that w/o using a CNC lathe. Radius grooves make the bullet stronger. 

These molds cost 1/3 what a custom mold will cost and that means you can buy two (.321 & .323) and still have about $70 left over.

Not to mention that new shooters, usually don't want to spend over $200 for there first mold.

All of my bullet moulds have radi lube grooves Frankore they keep the bullets from being stuck in the mould and I believe tapered bullets were originaly designed for muzzle loading but possibly not the correct choice for breach seating accuracy in my peresonel experiance. I understand the logic of the taper helping to center the bullet in the bore but when the nose moves back for the bullet to completley fill the grooves the chances of the nose slumping off center are greater than a cylindrical bullet. A cylindrical bullet is guided to be central to bore by its entire body with the nose getting it off to a good start and the movement of the nose is substantialy reduced giving it greater odds of staying central to the bore. I am not trying to be argumentive but I do feel the need to let others know there might be a better option based on their accuracy exspectations and then the choice becomes theirs to make being fully aware of alternative options.

Well John,
That is your opinion. I believe that your one of the few in the nation that shoot non-tapered bullets. 

The nose of a bullet tapers much more than the body, if your concerns were true, the nose of all bullets would make them inaccurate, unless you shot wad cutters.

You might note the accuracy record of the PJ mold that's pictured in this thread. at least a few of the 1240+ scores (50 shot match) were made with that tapered bullet.

That said, I have nothing against cylindrical bullet, I shoot one in my 33 ELCO but, you have to be careful about their fit. They can't be larger than the groove or it takes to much pressure to seat them but, they can be .001 smaller. When you seat them, the lead displaced by the lands will extrude radially, also. Along with that, you may still have the problem with getting the base band large enough to fill the throat and seal it.

They have their same basic problems but, IMO the tapered bullet will get it done with less fuss.

BTW, I can't really believe that your not trying to be argumentative. It seems that no matter what I post, you have some problem with it. The majority of competive shooters, today shoot tapered, spitzer bullets. I really don't see your point or even many cylinderical bullets winning the most competitive matches.

In this thread, I'm trying to make obtaining a accurate bullet mold that has adjustability for different size barrels, available at a extremely good price. Something that you say that you try to do in making this sport more affordable to new shooters. Do you have a way to make accurate bullet molds more affordable for new shooters?

There is no way to shoot a straight bullet in my Stevens-Pope. Anything that could be forced in would not shoot well enough to be worth the   powder and primer to sent it down range.

For the record I never said a tapered would not shoot good Frank they do indeed shoot very well. What I did say was based on my personal experience a cylindrical bullet has consistently shot better for me and may do so for others?
