Tapered bullets?

How prevalent is the use of tapered bullets in match competition?  I see Saeco makes moulds in 32 and 38 caliber.  Who else does?  When you lube these bullets does the lube tend to go everywhere or is the difference between bands so small it makes no difference.  Thanks.  Tom

Some where around 90% of match shooters, use tapered bullets for BSing.

It's not a lot of taper, it can be as little as .002 but, .003 - .004 depending on groove depth is probably more common.

The idea is to get the bullet centered in the fore part of it and also, reduce the effort to push it home and try to eliminate deformation of the bullet.

It's worked very well for at least 130 years in our sport.

At this time, your only source, other than used is SAECO, Hoch, Steve Brooks and Boomer (Leo) in Canada, that I can think of. Any used Ron Long, Jerry Barrett or Paul Jones, will be some of the best.

Buffalo Arms also makes a tapered .32 mold.  I haven't tried theirs as the bullet didn't look like it'd fit my rifles well.  The Saeco bullets seem to work pretty well.

The bullet pictured is for BSing the .32/40, but most folks use a longer, heavier, spitzer for  200 yd. work.  That bullet would be a good hunting bullet in a 32/40 but I don't know how many hunters BS........Actually I know alot of hunters that BS.....I should have said "breach seated".
