I had Harlan Sage of Sagebrush products make a mold to fit the bullet I forced into the chamber of my 32-20 CPA. It is a tapered bullet with a .322 baseband followed by .320,.318,.316,.313 and finally .311. It weighs 199.5 grains cast of 15:1 and is 1.035 long. The mold is not cheap but it is good!
I ,too ordered the Hoch mold from CPA and it did cast .324 base and .316 front band. I sent it back. I suspect that this mold is probably the same one you're using.
My mold design is on Harlan's website. I'd recommend it. Dennis

Breach seating bullets should not be so trouble some. Cylindrical bullets typically shoot better than tapered bullets breach seated and all though they might seat a tad harder they are not a challenge to seat by any means. Tapered bullets are typically used for muzzle loading, pushing the bullet down the bore. It all depends on what type of accuracy you are looking for and your loading method.

The bullets that were casted with the 20:1 alloy were very hard to seat . The bullets at .322 " seat like they should . I'am getting no engraving at the base bands

Brudford, I explained to you and One More Time why your bullets are not engraved on the base band!

Quote:
Depending on the bullet length and how far the plug is seated out ... the base band will not be engraved.  Lengthen the plug and the bullet will be seated deeper. Conversely, shorten the plug and the bullet will not be seated as deepl

1.  You are casting with a Hoch mold (Never identified which one) and with the plugged case, not a breech seater, which probably has a 1/16" plug past the case mouth
2.  The Hoch bullets are too long to be fully seated with the base engraved with only 1/16" plug!
3.  With a shorter bullet and a 1/16" plugged case - the bullets will be fully engraved on the base bands!  It's as simple as that!

Details of Hoch bullets and you pick the Hoch mold you are using!
* Hoch 322-200
- 1.77  Embarrassed 1.070 bullet length
- 0.320 base diameter
- 1:30 alloy
With a 1/16" plugged case or a breech seater, the engraving JUST touches the base band
Hoch 322-205
- 1.74 bullet length
- 0.322 base diameter
- 1:20 alloy
With a 1/16" plugged case or a breech seater, the engraving JUST touches the base band
Hoch 322-300215 ... sorry, I had the tray of bullets mislabeled
- 1.030 bullet length
- 0.319 base diameter
- 1:20 alloy
With a 1/16" plugged case or a breech seater, the engraving JUST touches the base band
Ideal 319273
- 0.945 bullet length
- 0.322 base diameter
- 1:30 alloy
With a 1/16" plugged case or a breech seater and a shorter bullet, the base band IS FULLY ENGRAVED

So, to fully engrave a Hoch bullet, you have to extend the end of the plugged case ... 1/16 PLUS the width of the base band of the Hoch mold bullet you are shooting!
Do You Understand?

And don't pooh - pooh Hoch molds.  The bullets are very accuracte.  Just look at John Louis's 10 shot target he posted on the forum at 200yds with the Hoch 322-200 bullet!
