My 32-20 CPA Enforcer day at the range

The rifle loves the Enforcer, I see what you all are talking about.  Working up from 12.0 gr with Rem 6.5 primers, it settled down very consistently at 12.6 gr.  I did fire one group with 12.7 but it went erratic and the primers were flat.  The 12.6 load also shows pressure signs but 5-round groups at 100 yards were around .5 inch with the Hoch bullet.  Remington 9.5 primers were erratic, and the Fed. 205 more so.
With the Saeco 538, however, the Fed. 205 shows promise.  I need to graduate to 10-round groups and move out to 200 to see if these were for real.  A total of 20 5-round groups fired, BTW.  Made for a long day.  Next time I'll take the chrono.

The 205 Hoch / 12.6gr load does look promising. Curious to see what the velocity is. What make / twist is your barrel?

You don't say if you are using a wad or not. If not try a cork wad placed .050" to .100" off the powder and orient the powder to the wad. This may necessitate trying the 9 1/2s and the Federal 205Ms again.

The barrel is a lapped and gauged Shilen .3201, 1-14.  the powder is held in by a .15" floral foam wad at the mouth, powder is shaken to the front before inserting.  I appreciate the over-powder wad advice but I'm afraid of ringing my barrel.  Work on the primers will continue once this load has been wrung out some more.

Pentz,
Are you using some cases that have large primer pockets? The Rem 9 1/2's are large or did you mean to say 7 1/2's

My best load for the .32-20 CPA was 13.0 grains of 4100.  The bullet was a 211 grain 5-groove Mos.  The primer was Federal GM205M. I used a newsprint wad to hold the powder hard against the primer.

The velocity was approximately 1500 fps.  Accuracy was great but the load was hard on cases.  Most cases showed incipient case head separation after 8-9 firings.

At 12.6 grains of Enforcer, you may want to keep an eye on the cases as well.  The .32-20 case is not particularly robust.

Those 100 yard results look great and I hope your 200 yard test go as well.

Frank, yes, I meant 7.5.
Mr. Hughes, I'm pushing the limit with the 12.6, primer cratering and flattening.  I'm getting high strikes and have sent an email off to Gail regarding fixes.  You can see the primer flattening and block drag on the primer cratering.  The index marks are at 12:00 in the breech.
The weather was pretty warm that day.  It's cooled off 15 degrees here in the northwet and I will see what happens Sunday with another 100 cases.  The case heads are showing definition but no ring yet.  But heck, if I can get stirling accuracy out of 8-9 loading limits that is fine with me.

Hi,

The high strikes can usually be fixed by changing out the link between the lever and breechblock.  I had a similar problem with a .32-40 CPA and Gail provided a link with proper spacing.

If you seat your wad .050" or more then you will not ring your chamber. I have shot thousands of rounds through my Borchardt and the chamber is perfect.

The report on the Quigley blow up was:  he apparently had rung the chamber, and was advised not to be shooting the gun. But he continued on with his charge of 5744 with a wad used to hold the powder back against the primer. So you are at least .050 away from a possible blowup...

Pentz,

Very impressive, to say the least.

Just an FYI. Looking at the picture of your primers I see you're shaving a little brass. That's not necessarily a bad thing. I would recommend that you drop your breechblock, remove the firing pin/bushing, and clean any shavings. I do this after every outing/match. If you let the brass shavings build up you'll start getting erratic ignition. Learned that the hard way.

For what it's worth CCI BR4 primers are working really well in my 25-20WCF.
