Large Pistol Primers?

Has anyone had any experience pro or con on the use of large pistol primers vrs. large rilfe ones shooting black powder in the .40 cal.?  I am having RMC turn up .40-63 Everlasting cases and am wondering if I should have them put in the large pistol pockets which are shallower in depth.  I do have solid carbide Whitetail pocket uniformers that I could go in and deepen to rifle depth if the pistol pocket doesn't work out.  What are your thoughts?

In nearly all of my black powder rifles I get the lowest velocity SD using large pistol primers and a wad in the primer pocket.  Interestingly in my .32-40 Ruger #1 it seems to prefer BR2's.  I only mention this as there are some that believe that the lower the powder charge the more likely there will be a benefit to large pistol primers.  That mostly seems true in my rifles.

Thanks for replys.  Now here is a puzzle:  I had always heard small pistol primers were more accurate in small cases, so I did a little test..In my .22 Hornet, using RWS brass, I loaded 10 with small rifle & 10 with small pistol.  bullets were cast..Leeth copy of Ideal 22636 over 7.0grs. H4227.  Now this was by no means a comprehensive test, but the small rifle primers were clearly the more accurate.

Not really a puzzle as I see it.
A lot of what gets posted on this forum is nice as a general guide and there are a lot of helpful hints, but in the end, it comes down to what works best in YOUR particular rifle, and not what works best in someone elses rifle.

Am using CCI200 LR primers in my 40-65 and having no problems. My spotter uses Fed 210M in his and does well. He won the silver medal this past weekend at the 3-day Great Lakes Regional and I won my class. The other three (3) 40-65 shooters we shoot with all use one LR primer or another. Your rifle & loads and where the holes are on the target will tell you which primer is right for you.

The advantage of going with a LR primer pocket is that you can put a layer or two of newspaper above a LP primer and it will work fine and be flush with the base of the case. You will also be able use LR primers if you find they work better. If you go with a LP primer pocket then you will not be able to use LR primers.

I use GM155M  Large pistol Magnum Match primers in several of my rifles including the 40-82 with excellent results. They almost always have the best vertical when testing against other primers when using Swiss 1 1/2.
