Case Annealing question

I know this has been asked before but here goes again...
When annealing cases, in this case the brass is new Star Line .45-70, is it best to drop the hot cases into water or just drop them on a soft surface?
I've heard both ways. Which is best?
Thanks,

Cat

Makes no difference. The water does not "harden" the brass like it might for certain other metals. Al it does is make wet cases that have to be dried out before you can reload them. I let them fall into a tin pan from my annealing machine
