Question - Russ Weber Seater

As requested, I sent Russ three 32-40 cases.  When the seater came, one case was in the seater.  The other 2 cases he reamed a bevel pocket in the bases.  Why and how would I use these 2 bevel pocket cases?

Sorry asking but this is my 1st case seater of this type instead of plugged cases

John you usually only get back the one on the seater and at times one tapped spare. The thead pitch he typicaly uses is odd and I am not sure if that has changed but if not I have the Tap and I wouldn't charge you should you need it done.

John, I have 2 (sold one) of Russ Webers' tools. They function and adjust beautifully. My "spare" cases were drilled and tapped at the base. (What's a bevel pocket?)  The tool is designed to hold a case threaded to the body and secured with a drop of blue Loctite. The plug or "bullet pusher" presses through, from inside the case, my bullet into the barrel to the depth I have selected. In my case, cases sent to Russ were of very thin brass and could be subject to wearing out. The spares are intended as replacements, if needed. Keep in mind that Russ uses cases fired in your rifle, so they fit your chamber perfectly. He then cuts the inside of the case to accommodate the bullet you sent. Depending upon the base diameter of your bullet, the case wall might be pretty thin and wear quickly. Thus the need for spares. (FWIW, my cases - Starline .32-20 are so thin after machining that spares are good insurance.)
Perhaps others better versed in these matters will explain more expertly than I have tried to do.

Might add that my 25-21 Weber Seater does not use a threaded case it is soldered on and the first one I have seen done that way but yours or others may have been done the same way?

My Weber seater mirrors OkeyMaple's and is a fine bit of engineering.  I polished mine up and engraved the rifle's serial number on the flat.  My spare cases are threaded.

Embarrassed Embarrassed Embarrassed Gentlemen I am Totally Embarrassed  Embarrassed Embarrassed Embarrassed

I Got It - I Got It... The Bases Are Threaded

If I had looked more closely at the 2 cases in the plastic envelope (which I didn't) - the reason for threads in the bases would have been plain as the nose on my face!
Should I bugger the case on the seater, just break the loctite and screw one into the seater and I'm good to go

And thanks to all for the replies that motivated me to go to the reloading room and Look Closely!

John Boy

It probably goes  without saying but keep a bullet in the seater during storage.

Thanks for the good advice.  Yes, thought was a good idea too.  In the spare cases, the bullets are stored in the case inverted and stored safely.

digitall423, Thank you. I never would have come up with that simple idea. I have never had an issue with a collapsed case on a seater, but the law of averages must be just about ready to come into play. I'm going to bugger the nose of a bullet to "mark" the one used for a plug and try to think of you when I use it from now on. Have a great Independence Day, everybody!!

I cover the end of my seater case with a 38 special case, keeps it nice and safe.

I have a stainless 357 I was the test case from my son's Ruger Vaquero.  They had put a dab of red paint on it which helps me to remember what I use it for during my senior moments.

I find a case that will fit over the breech seater case...my 32 Ideal , have A 357 case to slide on to protect it. My 32-40, use a 38-55 to protect it. they do dent easily.
