My thought as well, cut the chamber so you are not fighting bastard brass. I had one rifle like that and it was a constant irritation until touched up a little with a finish reamer

A finish 25 Hornet reamer may be my best option...now the hunt is on for reamer...thanks for the reply's

You could also clean up the rear of the chamber with a standard 22 Hornet reamer if, it has a removeable pilot. You can (from most makers) get any size pilot you want.

The tapers are different but, your problem is with the solid head area and a 22 Hornet is the same.

You could also press a piece of aluminum tube onto the fixed pilot of a reamer, then turn it to size with the reamer held between centers.  I've done it.  Works fine for one chamber, maybe more. 

To tell the truth, for my Lovell Krag with the small chamber base, I just skinned about .003 on diameter off the brass.  (I'm using Jamison, which has plenty of meat there. Would not do that with any other make.)
