What does 'used under" Mean?

Joe, the June match in San Diego is always 200 and 300 yards iron sight, 40 caliber and over, fixed ammo for the Colonel Stodter Trophy.

Joe,
I believe that is pointing out that the calibre used was less than the 0.40" minimum specified calibre for the competition. Perhaps some competitors didn't have a rifle of over 0.40" Calibre with them.

Could be, Harry.  Makes no sense, does it?

We used to have .40 and over matches at Tacoma years ago. We had to use a .40 or bigger for the match.  Was a lot of fun. Anyone caught trying to use a smaller caliber was tarred and feathered.

Joe, I think it's sort of like "Is anything used under the kilts? NO! Everything under the kilts is in new condition."

We just encourage everyone to come and shoot, Joe.  Just declare if you're not shooting a .40 cal or bigger, and you're not eligible for any prizes.

Regards, Joe

The few of us left, scattered across the country. We need our own town/territory.   Lone Pine?
