Recently I acquired a De-recapper for my 25-20SS. I was told that it was of more modern manufacture and not an old one. I believe they told me it was of Simmons make, and that he is no longer making them. It works well and I like the fact it uses Lyman re-capping pins. The one in it was broken when I got it and Lyman's fit and work perfect.

I'd like to know what De-recappers are available now days. I have seen the CPA and it is very well made. However there must be more out there. I want to buy one like the one I have for my 25-20SS to use with my 32-40.

Any comments or information will be appreciated.

Steve Meacham makes one like the Pope. There is a list of tools and supplies in the stickies at the top of the Buy/Sale/Trade sub forum. Several of the members make and sell theirs on here.

The only two I know of making a Pope reproduction are CPA and Steve Meacham.

The parts might interchange. You would just need a decapping rod and shell holder.  I had a Simmons years ago and it used RCBS shell holders and I think the other two I mentioned use RCBS holders, also.

Never mind the mule. Just load the wagon.

The late Jerry Simmons designed and made his own shell holders. I bought several of the tools from him over the years and had a couple converted to other case-head designs.  They are not interchangeable with any other tool other than his.  I think I have heard of someone who adapted RCBS shell holder to to Jerry's device but I don' t recall who or how it was done.  Now that Jerry is gone I know of no one producing the shell holders for them.

Over the years there may be half a dozen or more people who made variations on that style of de-re capping tool (you gotta de before you can re  Cheesy); mostly in short limited production runs.   I suspect it was a high-cost high-effort project for a relatively low cost tool.

Buffalo Arms carries the Pope / Meacham as well as a full variety of decapping rods for the various cases. They are available in both small and large rifle primers they do not enter change. Its a top of the line tool.
The best one available out there right now is the Pool Tool, they are real Gems!!!! I use both a Meacham and a Schoyen style re&de and I like them both equally. If you are ever lucky enough to find a BW Darr re&de don't hesitate to jump on it!

Solved the quest with a call to CPA. Paul's is made of SS and done very nicely. A little pricier but very nicely done.

I also have several made by Quarter-Bore, they are as compact and efficient as any I have seen,  but they are single cartridge designs without interchangeable hell holders.

I also have one by Quarterbore, he made up one for me for my 44-77 and it works quite nicely. One thing it did show me was that my flash holed needed to be debured. it will also work for my 45-70 and would also work for a 45-90. Not sure if it would work for a 45-100 or not, it may be a little short.

I think it is extremely important to set the anvil accordingly when capping a case and some re&de cappers just don't provide the sensitivity to be able to seat the anvil accordingly and repeatably. There is more involved accuracy wise than simply replacing a spent primer. Unknown to most there are actually factory recommendations / specifications in regards to correctly seating the anvil without leaving it short and or crushed with both being accuracy destroyers.

I've owned several of Jerry "Jake" Simmons' re- and decappers and one of my greatest regrets is not getting a shell holder head in 25-20 SS since I got heads and decapping stems for most every other caliber I'm likely to need for it.  There are other re- and de's that are cheaper, some easier to use, and whatever other features you might mention, but I started out with a Simmons and still have a few, so I'm likely to stick with them for a long time.
