I tore down a previously untouched 8x58 sporter yesterday, work has been dreadfully slow lately, too much time on hands, too little cash flow for my nervous system. So be it. I chucked up the barrel between centers (sort of) and turned a full round section as wide as I could leaving a shoulder to headspace/screw to.... also leaving the dovetail forend lug fully secure. Turned just barely full round, 1.0105 diameter. A nice round number to plug into PT. The bummer is its over the neck! DANG IT! Thats OK, I can critically measure and get a good number for the ID for PT, plus for a microsecond the bullet will still be fully sealed in the neck and give me a real, very early pressure indication with bullet nearly fully seated. Thats what would be ideal. Rife was torn down, ultrasonically cleaned, lubed, checked, bore slugged (.3245-.325), chamber cast deep for PT diameter measurements, barrel screwed back on and now waiting for the install of the strain gage. Not sure if I want the gauge inside the forend or it I want it on top of barrel where I can see it. I suppose the protection of hollowing out the forend is a good thing. But Ill need to damage the forend (which is in excellent condition) to make an access hole for cable. I think Id just as soon leave it to the side or on top where I can control the cable tension. My Norma 203 (not B) is arriving this weekend (Sunday I think) so I am close to a final load for proof test. I need to order a box of Bullets, Im dreading $70.00 for a box of 100. Dear Lord help me!! Ive altered my work laptop with a new SSD, modified it for as low a power consumption as I can get out of it and still run Pressure Trace, I now have almost 4 hours of range time in continuous firing (Ill never need that but in the high desert test range I will go to there is no POWER to use!) Im close to making some traces!! Ill be posting (with your permission and blessing) my results in the hopes it will attract newcomers, entice the repurpose of the Swedish rifles as is and inspire a few others to dive in. I have sent some PM's on other sites where others have already done work on the subject.......... All but one rejected the project patently.... apparently I may be stepping on the toes of the forefathers!! That ticked me off. The ASSRA is clearly the most desirable forum, the members here are nothing but exceptional. Ive yet to meet (in virtual realm) anything but gentleman, upright folks, here on the forum. THANK YOU!!
