I have some 8x57JRS I screwed up and ordered (never order 8x57 ammo in haste as it goes off sale at midnight, you'll probably click the wrong button and then---).
Then I figured out its a cool cartridge and is very close to a 444 Marlin in shape. The 444 has been bent all sorts of ways to make stuff. So has the Krag which is also similar.
After pulling it down for components for the 8x57JS---- im left with stuff that measures like this.
.524 rim
.469 head
.431 shoulder
.350 neck./.323 bullet
2.224 length
So since I have a significant amount of the brass sitting here, virgin, primed, etc.....
I feel like a .431 BP express should be formed from this brass.
A .524 rim
A .469 head
Tapers over about 1.6 inch down to .453
.453 neck for the balance of 2.200 case length.
300-350 gr bullet. Like the Lee 310 FPGC type used for 44 magnum.
Its longer and has more capacity than a 40-65
Makes good use of the brass, I found a 20 twist barrel I could try fairly cheap.
What DOEST THOU THINKith? What cartridge has already been built that is nearly identical?
Im sure I have just reinvented the wheel for the 46th time.
Created the ultimate answer to a NON-ISSUE.
In hindsight as I typed, I could form a .446 case from it as well.
Its original case head is .469 (Industry Spec)
If I took that to .470 from head to mouth, that would offer a place for a .446 bullet
Totally straight-walled, zero taper! .012 neck thickness (well a bit smaller after stretching the beegeebeez out of it)
Its such a waste to have the brass here. Id like to find a MONEY PIT to toss good money after bad to make better use of the brass
