How often do you anneal for BPCR? Is once enough, or should they be annealed before every resize?

IT DEPENDS! My black powder cartridge rifle is a Mauser 71/84 using Bertram brass. These cases need to be annealed before use, but after that there is no need to anneal again. This is because they are a near exact fit in the chamber and after the first firing I don't resize them again---the brass is not subjected to expansion on firing and contraction when being re-sized and so does not work harden.
I used to have a Martini-Henry which required quite significant neck re-sizing and so I used to anneal every time.

There are plenty of opinions on this.  Some never anneal, some infrequently, perhaps once a season, and some every firing.

I'm currently playing with the idea of annealing with every firing in an attempt to get a more consistent seal and thus reduce muzzle velocity standard deviation for long range loads.

I think you just have to try different techniques to see what you like.

If you have any powder residue on the outside of your cases after firing you might want to give it a try.

If your using Starline cases, you should anneal before the first shot. Even Starline sez this.
I anneal at every loading.
This is both for .45-70 and .45-90.

I anneal every other time on my BPCR loads. Most of my brass is Starline.
