What reticle to Use?
May 8th, 2015 at 10:30pm
Print Post
There's a brief discussion of available reticules from MVA on the For Sale/Trade thread.  I'm researching scopes/reticles for a future purchase and would like to know what reticle some of you use for bench and off hand use at the 200 yd. ring target.

Thanks,

JS

My favorite is a 1/8 min dot reticle.

For silly-wets, I like a dot.  For all other shooting, bench and offhand, I like a fine cross-hair.

Dot is so much easier to use, ez pick up by the eye.  And can be used to measure hold or group.

Fine crosshairs for bench and a tiny dot for offhand works best for me.

I use an 1/8 min dot on fine crosshairs. Its the best of both worlds.

I can't recommend Hybrid's good for bench and offhand. Compromises compromise performance both disiplines. However for offhand you want something you can see but don't focus on. Know were the gun is pointing but all mental focus on the target not the scope reticle. If the dot is too small you are always looking for it.

I shoot mostly 3/4 Moa dots offhand, can shoot 1 moa too. 3/4 is going to cover the white center of the ASSRA and probably not the best choice for bench shooting.

When I do shoot my offhand guns bench, testing mostly, I put the dot under the center ring like a bullseye pistol shooter holds his post front sight. Bottom of the bull.
