Vall, that was a kind note that you left for Mrs. Harz. It is difficult for me to realize that it has been two years since J.D. Steele's passing.
Did you know Whitey very well? Do you remember when Whitey had a lathe for sale ? Been about three years ago. I was going to stop at his place on my way to Colorado, but he got a buyer for it, as I recall.

Yes Webb, I knew Whitey even better than I knew Joe! We talked often by phone or email, and had numerous similar interests. Whitey and I did a lot of gun trading, especially when Whitey got sidetracked from single shots, and started getting into Marlin lever actions!
I still have guns and parts I traded or bought from Whitey. He had a very neat residence which was an old John Deere dealership in Joe's, Co., which served as home and huge work shop. Whitey did a lot of buying and selling of machine tools also, so he often had tools for sale that he had purchased.
Whitey was a real renaissance man, and always surprised me with his many talents. He did some design work for Pedersoli (away from guns!) and David personally sent Whitey a hand built muzzleloader as a thank you. I still have that muzzloader, as we did a trade that included it.
Joe and Whitey were cut from a different cloth than we find today. I can't tell you how many times I dealt with both men, and simply sent items, and knew they'd send me funds when they saw what I sent to them. Not often that we discussed prices, as we knew both would do the right thing. I sure miss them both!
