Found a new 28-30 brass??
May 1st, 2015 at 10:42am
Print Post
Found some Norma 6x70r cases in my 28-30 stuff, don't remember where they came from. When measured and compared to Rem-UMC cases almost identical. Can't find anything on this case, can some one help?

Thanks Tom

The 6x70r was a bottleneck, belted, rimless magnum case. If they are nearly identical in you batch, they must have been highly reworked to get there!

Yea, I saw that in early research, but these cases show no evidence of being worked that hard. Would seem hardly worth the effort.

6 x 70r is a long skinny rimmed case measuring about .418 on the rim, .351 at the base, and about 2.74 in length.  Definitely not a belted case.

Huntington's had some about 2-3 years ago.  I bought the last few they had, and was told not to expect any more.

Just my luck, the case is probably as hard to find as 28-30. The case quality appears to be excellent and looks like it would not be hard to reform. Thanks for the help.

I have been trying for several years to find some of the Norma 6x70R missed some on gun broker quite some time ago.

Ken Meyer did an article on making 28-30 and 32 Ideal from this brass. Apparently it is the only brass that has the right base dimensions for those two shells. I called Huntington’s and talked to them they had none in stock and was told it had come in years ago and it took them forever to get rid of it. They said they wouldn’t reorder it.

That's pretty consistent with what they told me - that it had come in by mistake, and their supplier wouldn't take it back.

BTW the .32 Ideal can be made from 5.56x50R almost as easily.

Wonder if Biggi would know of a European supplier that would have any?  And can a few hundred be imported to the US without running afoul of the customs laws?
