For any ASSRA readers who have an interest in the 1878 Sharps Borchardt rifle, particularly the shooting aspect of this fine rifle, I mention that there are competent and knowledgeable experts available to provide immediate assistance to meet your every legitimate need.

I speak about Mr. Al Story who is the principal at the Borchardt Rifle Company located in Silver City, New Mexico, assisted by the able, Mr. Ken Lewis.

For an introduction to the going enterprise which supports the 1878 Sharps Borchardt in real time, and in the present moment, please see < (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) For a more detailed and comprehensive information speak with Al and/or Ken by telephone at (575) 535-2923.

These gentlemen are at their shop serving their customer base here, now, in 2015 performing what they do best.

This is not one of those "in the cloud", pipe dream affairs that one reads about !

Dr Maynard:

Thank you for this information.  I began doing some basic drawings last night.  I will contact Al Story and Ken Lewis to see if they would be willing to review the prints for dimensional correctness.  Very few people will be scratch building they're own receiver, but it would be quite beneficial to have it compatible with the internal parts that Borchardt Rifle Company makes.  This would be a plus for both the builder and the parts supplier.
You are quite correct in that I have an ulterior motive for doing these plans:  I need to develop my skills in 3D modeling.  Though I have been using these design programs for years, there are several functions that I have yet to learn.  The contours and features of this project are going to force me to learn new skills.  If I seem a little reluctant in this task, it's because I chose to jump off a cliff and then build my wings on the way down.
Please feel free to send me a PM; the advise of experts is always welcome.

Ken & Dr Maynard:

Thank you both.  I wasn't planning to start until Saturday, but began yesterday instead.  I'm going to start the thread in the "Gunsmithing" section of the forum, because that would be a more appropriate place for it than the "General Discussion" area.  I'll meet you over there.

Obsidian --
That sounds like a winner to me.  I'll stop and pick up the coffee and donuts on the way over.

I would like you to meet " AlphaWolf " one of these days, since he has completed similar projects to the one you are about to embark on.  If I have some time in the next day or two I'll try and locate a sampling of AlphaWolfs work, which proves he is quite the talented CAD/CAM technician.

I sent Steven (Alphawoof) a full set of my Borchardt Plans some four years ago, and with his usual attitude of why make one when you can make more he started making two. His CNC mill is a great help. However he ran into problems with some of the measurements and appears to have abandoned the work. A pity, as he could make things very quickly indeed. He does just about everything except make barrels. He makes his own cutting tools and does CC Hardening and heat treatment of materials.

Harry.
EDIT.
Doc., either the website is down or there is an error in your link to Stevens Photobucket site. I'll try again later.
Harry
