	I have a RKS .32cal 8 groove CM barrel that will be installed on one of my CPA's. I'm looking for some insight on what if any affect bluing the bore will have on accuracy. I did a little research on line and see there are varying opinions on the subject. Thanks in advance, Bob

	FWIW pure WAG : not much in the long run I imagine ( but I don't think I've ever seen a barrel that was blued inside ) UNLESS the soak in the bluing solution was long enough to etch the polished/lapped bore surface and or was not completely neutralized and continued to eat away in the corners-----lets face it "bluing" is just a form of modified RUST. then too firing cast lead bullets probably would wear polish the bluing away in any case. thousands of guns are MFG every year with blued barrels, either its not a major problem or the professional bluing operations plug the bores to prevent the bluing chemicals getting into the bore in the first place. as your barrel provider his opinion and or contact one of the quality bluing services and ask about their methods. It'll be interesting to see how the folks who really KNOW respond

	In my opinion rust is never an accuracy enhancer be is black or red its still rust. 40 Rod

It'll be interesting to see how the folks who really KNOW respond I've seen many CM barrels with blued bores. Four of the barrels I have from CPA have blued bores. I only became concerned when I read of members on a benchrest forum noted a loss of accuracy when bluing the bore of their CM barrels. I'm hoping to here from people like you say "folks who really KNOW" Thanks, Bob

I've been told that bluing the bore is a non issue. Up until I read of people having accuracy issues after bluing their bores I never gave it a thought. Bob

	Bluing the bore has no effect when using gilded bullets. However it will spread the group size for shooting cast bullets. My quartebore shot tacks until I had the RKS octagon barrel blued. Unfortunately he never plugged the barrel and blued the inside. A rifle that never shot outside the 24 ring started flinging bullets out to the twenty ring and even against the wind after it was blued. It has taken me five years of cleaning the barrel and finally fire lapping the barrel to get the accuracy back. NEVER NEVER blue the inside of a barrel that will be shooting cast bullets.

To avoid a problem with rust after bluing you clean the bore the same way you clean the barrel surface. As soon as the barrel cools off clean up the surface then run a number of cotton patches through till clean and then apply a light coat of oil. For most shooters you have to trust the person bluing your barrel to take care of your barrel. Ken Ken, It does make sense. Especially if the bluing salts are allowed to stay in the bore long after the barrel is removed from the tank. Bob

	That's why I have my barrels rust blued. Nothing enters the bore.

	I have seven Shiloh's and each one had the bore blued. This concerned me too. But I never had accuracy problems with them. when I ran the first patch through the barrels when I picked the rifles up the patch ran through smooth. None ever had a jacketed bullet shot through them. My .22 and .44-75 Ballard CPA I just got last fall did not have the bore blued.

	I have seven Shiloh's and each one had the bore blued. My new 1874 Shiloh Sharps came with a bright bore.

Yup, no doubt about it, the bore is bright when you look down through it. Next time you talk to Kirk or the Gals ask them if they plug the barrel before bluing. The Shiloh is usually on top of the leader board or close to the top.

	Assuming that it does affect accuracy, the question I have is, why? What are the physics happening inside the barrel that change when it is blued?
