"2. My 22 rf, BSed bullet. 30/1, no lube grooves. .56 lg with a .10 lg base band, .001 over groove. The .21 bore ride area is .0005 over bore. Shot smokeless."

"no lube grooves"  guess I missed something earlier,  how are you lubing them?

I've shot at least, hundreds of rounds with that bullet w/o any leading, what so ever.

I've lube them two ways.

1. rubbed Darr Lube in my hands and rolled them in my fingers.

2. Rolled them in a small container with Lee alox in it.

If you look at any of the 22rf bullets, there really isn't any lube grooves but, some have very thick lube adhered to the the out side surface of the bullet but, none have what we would call real, grooves.

Any advocates out there for bore diameter lead bullets?
PD, add Paul Matthews in his More How - To's ...
for black powder reloads.  Due to the ignition pressure curve, the base of the bullet has already slumped before reaching the bore.  So when it reaches the initial grooves of the bore - it is already groove diameter.
Matthews also advocates the cast bullet optimum size to be calculated ... Quote:
carefully measure the outside diameter of the mouth of a 2x fire formed case and then subtract twice the wall thickness to come up with the inside diameter of the fire formed cartridge.  Size the bullets about a thousandth and a half (0.0015) to two thousandths (0.002)  inch under that.  Then buy a custom mold and load the bullets as cast

Have to remember though - always use the same cases!

After 40 years of casting and shooting lead bullets with smokeless powder, I know that some do well with groove-diameter cast bullets, but I have never gotten good results. I get best results shooting as-cast and lubed bullets. As long as the cast bullet is at least 0.001" over actual groove diameter, things are good to go.
If loading black and breech loaded, a bore (or land) diameter pure lead bullet might work (does it still have a patch around it?), but I have never heard anyone claim such and haven't shoot any black.

The issue with Mann is what I tend to cal lthe 'ivory tower syndrome'.  One has to admire his dedication and perseverance, but he could have made a more efficient use of his time investigating some other things that are probably more important.
At any rate, while there are some good pointers in the book, overall I had expected much more of it, seeing how it iis 'promoted'by some people.  its practial use is pretty small.
