I have a post over on the NOE forum (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) asking for a list of people who would like a proper case expander, for oversize bullets, for older 38-55, 38-56 and 38-72 calibers. They fit the Lee universal expander die (cheap) and do a very good job. If you need one go over and add your name. 10 names and he will produce them.

I make my own expanders for cast bullets - smallest diameter that goes deepest is such that there is a very small clearance (close sliding fit) the larger diameter is short and just enough to easily place the bullet into the case by hand; the third 'diameter' is a slight taper to ease entry of the bullet.

It is a game - depends on bullet diameter, wall thickness(es) and chamber diameter.
