	I did a search but am confused/concerned about the seating depths of cork and floral foam wads. I've used cork wads 1/8" thick; they are a bit of a pain to seat. Next to try will be the floral foam; I've sliced it nicely into sheets .2" thick with my Wustof santuko (love that blade) and have sealed my case mouths with ease. Now I worry about whether to leave them at the case mouth or seat them down close to the powder. It would seem that the inconsequential matter in the very friable floral foam would not cause a potential chamber ringing in my heavy barrel, but this cartridge is still very new to me. Thoughts/warnings/experiences? Thanks...

	I don't seat anything below the case mouth and don't ever use a wad unless I absolutely have to, to avoid spilling powder when loading the case in the chamber. With a STS scope, I can even load the 32/20 w/o a wad in a HW. And I've been loading my 33 ELCO Max case in my Borchardt for years w/o a wad. Oh............ I forgot to say, "I DON'T like wads" Frank

	As far as wads go you are going to find 2 camps those that swear by wads and those that swear at them. I am one who uses wads and have used them successfully for many years. I use cork or in some cases felt I like to use natural materials for my wads. This is the method that I learned from Charlie Dell. Get your starting powder charge and put it in a case tap the case to settle the powder now push a wad down on to the powder and measure the depth to the top of the wad. Subtract .100” and set your wad seater at this point it doesn’t have to be anything fancy for a .32 cal you can use a 5/16”-18 screw and two nuts to lock in place. Drop your powder charge seat your wad now tip your case mouth down. Now take the case and put it in the chamber and fire. When you finally get a charge that you are happy with make up a permanent seater that keeps the wad off the powder between .050” and .100 off the powder and don’t forget to orient the powder against the wad. 40 Rod

	Frank I totally agree. I guess I am an antiwadite! I have tried floral foam wads and they are too messy. Whenever shooters at my home range wander over to see what the heck I am doing with a powder measure and a rifle with a 'sniper' scope they will ask how I keep the powder in the case. I say "very carefully". I never have had it spill into an action. Jack

	Jack, I have to say that I haven't always been against wads. I did use them, quite successfully in grade school. I did get a 250 with them, too......... 250 swats with a paddle, that is Frank

	Pentz - Personal experience only ................. I have found it not possible to insert a wad into a case mouth of a given diameter and expect it to hold its position when seated to a depth of a greater diameter. The .32-20CPA is a bottle neck case, is it not?

	Hi, You may want to consider Schuetzendave's pipe insulation wads. I didn't use them in .32-20 CPA but they work well in .32 RKS. JackHughs

	The 32-20 CPA is blown out to a straight-walled case; the cork worked well but was difficult to cut unless the case mouth was sharpened. The foam is much easier albeit a bit crumbly. I'll seat them down to .10 off the powder. I attended a 1-room schoolhouse as a child and had the same teacher for all 8 years. No swats, but spent many hours at recess and lunch writing "I will not......" a thousand times a go.

	I looked up my reamer print for the 32-20 CPA It shows a .007 difference between the body diameter and the neck diameter. So yes there is a .0035” per side bottleneck. If we assume that the wall thickness is the same in at the top of the body and the neck a inside diameter of .322” will only open up to .329”. I measured one of the wads that I punched out with my Cornell wad punch and they measure .333” that should be enough to keep them in place. However if that doesn’t work you can use a .33 cal wad in the case mouth. 40 Rod

	I cut my .32 wads with a .38 diameter wad cutter. That way the pipe insulation wads are slightly compressed and holds firm in the case mouth. I have seen a ringed RKS stainless steel barrel from a shooter who put floral foam wads directly down on the powder.

	In their book, "The Modern Schuetzen Rifle" Wayne Schwartz and Charlie Dell comment on wads. I chuckled when I saw Wayne's comment, which was one line; "I do not use wads, so can't comment on them." Charlie on the other hand goes on for numerous pages talking about wads, and his experiences with them; plus other's comments on wads. I liked what both of them said about wads.

	My experience with wads in the .32-20CPA is with floral foam and pipe foam insulation. I started out with 1/4" thick floral foam as recommended by CPA with decent results. After reading information on what Charlie Dell and others have said regarding chamber ringing I decided to look into alternatives. Schuetzendave has been using pipe foam insulation for some time now with excellent results so I gave them a try. I just push the wads in so they are even with the top of the case mouth. They worked very well for me using the same powder charges that worked with floral foam seated on the powder. The wads just fly out of the muzzle intact. I now use pipe foam insulation in my .32-20CPA, 22WCF and .40-50SS. Bob

It turns onto dust. Maybe the guy was using the dry floral foam?

	I think down hard on the powder were the key words and the culprit and not the choice of the floral material. Both the wet and dry turn into an ash when ignited on the end of a tooth pick and I have used both without incident but they were not placed hard down on the powder as 40 Rod has pointed out on several occasions based on Charlie Dells findings.
