Maynard Target Tang Sight

Is anyone familiar with the premium tang peep sight that is displayed on the Maynard target rifle shown here?   Not often seen and quite possibly an owner installed sight.

Dr.Maynard

P.S.  The stock is beyond belief,  Shocked   and maybe a bit over-done for this shooter's taste.  I suppose if I were to receive this Maynard from a family member as a birthday gift, I could learn to like it.   Wink

Without digging out the Ideal and Lyman manuals for a reference that is a Lyman tang sight and two or three have appeared on the web over time.

Thanks Bob for your direction.

Will you be at Ft. Shenandoah next month for the Spring Nationals ?  If so, I hope to get to talk with you at Yeck's establishment.

Doctor,
That is a very early Lyman Model 15 tang sight and interestingly enough it has windage adjustment. William Lyman patented it in 1887. It was noted that this was a poor selling sight- so they are pretty rare. I had one just like it on a Maynard Mdl 15 in .25-20 (SS of course)

P.S. I think I have heard that stocks with that style cheekpeice were custom made for Maynards at the time they were being used by some fellow in Boston  I can't remember his name. I had one a long time ago and can't remember.

  Thanks very much Quarter Bore:

I have a collection of reprinted Ideal and Lyman vintage catalog, but could not find the sight in question.  However, my collection in not anywhere all inclusive, particularly in the early years.  So your info is greatly appreciated and very useful.

It would be great if Mr.Yeck would institute a "coffee bar" during the Nationals with more furniture for visitors.

Maybe he would benefit financially with a Star-Bucks franchise ?  I would be please to buy you a cup, if you are a partaker of such vices as coffee.
