Sgt. Alvin York Memorial Shoot

Print Post

Waiting for the results from last Saturday's (28 March 2015) annual Sgt. Alvin York Memorial Shoot held in Pall Mall, Tennessee.  For those who are unacquainted, it is single shot competition with shooters attired  in their favorite brand of denim over-alls (no Ralph Lauren labels hanging out, please), shot prone, over the log at 60 paces, as was the custom for men to compete when Sgt. York lived in that part of western Tennessee.

I'll be able to tell how things went for my friend when I see him again in the next couple of days upon his return.    Wink

I believe he'll be back before it ever gets on the W.W.W.  I guess they have the W.W.W. in Pall Mall ?   ?   Huh

Hi Bill ---  Yes, in deed it is !  The people of Tennessee are the state's best and foremost assets.  There is nothing nicer than Tennessee mountain music and the folks who play it.

Dixie Gun Works is pretty near the top too.

Just yanking your chain Webb. Remember Chattanooga has the fastest internet in the world. Well, and a little Podunk place in North Carolina. Hmm, another backward southern state. Go figure.
Bill

P.S. I've heard that DGW even has electric lights.

Choo. . .Choo !

In Tennessee a Sub-Way is a place to meet up for lunch.  .  .  .In D.C. a subway is the fastest way to get home when New York Avenue is bumper to bumper.    Grin

Have you, or your son, ever competed at the Alvin York Matches ?  I have a good friend who goes to shoot every year and is mighty good at it.  You probably know the target is a medium size  X  on a white file card size target.

Matt nor I have never gone but I would like to. A fellow that shoots in Asheville has gone and won a walking stick.

By the way, I looked up fast internet yesterday and found
that Minneapolis took the title in Dec.2014. Chattanooga had it in2010 however.

Hi there Bill -- Don't despair, there is plenty of time for Tennessee to regain the title of the state with the fastest internet connection in 2015.

After all- which other state is this Union can claim to have produced the inventor of the internet, starting from square one?

You nice folks have the bragging rights to that grand ole' gentleman named Albert Gore Jr. who was raised on a hay farm in Carthage, Tennessee.

Hey !  Wait one second !  I've just been advised by an "over the shoulder" observer that the Ex-V.P. was born in Washington, D.C.

Well cut my legs off and call me "shorty".  Who'd have guessed that, now tell me?  Not I !

If-ens I'd known that I would have stopped by his place at lunch time and wrang his doorbell to tell him "Hi" and thank him for this here internet machine I'm a punching these little square pegs on.

Maybe if one of us could get to know ole' Al a slight bit better we could invite him to meets up with us at the next Alvin York match and talk a little more serious around our campfire.

That-a-way we could really find out for sure iffens he just made a story up about the internet?

Take a lookens here:       Wink

Hi Webb. Look up the wealthiest elected official in the U.S.

I was driving back from Nashville one night a few days before Christmas while algore was V.P. Turned out my car was the first behind his motorcade. THP wasn't allowing any one on the freeway and they varied the speed from way below the speed limit to way faster. When they finally exited the highway there was nothing ahead of us. I had clear sailing all the way to Monteagle.

Morning Bill ---  I don't mean to be skeptical or a non-believer, it's just my nature to find out things for myself.  So I said, "Self, is Bill just yanking me chain?"

Well sure nuff, I have proof of what you say is true. Calhoun is getting to be quite modern, over there on Route 733, after-all.   Undecided

5th Photo from the left is my proof

Have a good day, sir
